Need To Know If These Stamps Are Real Errors And Worth Certifying

*Title:* Liberia Two Errors - 1892 3c Block Imperf Between Vert + 1936 22c Bi-Color Double Surcharge - Need Opinion

Hello all,

Found two Liberia errors in a small lot and would like opinions before submitting for cert.

*1. 1892 3c Red Inland Issue - Block of 4*
- Imperforate between vertically, perforated horizontally only
- Gutter is completely flat and smooth, no blind perfs, no dimples
- SON Monrovia cancel
- From what I can see this is Scott #31a variety

Is this listed as imperf between vertically? Is the gutter supposed to be flat like this? Is there 3 errors?

*2. 1936 Provisional 22c on $1 Ship Issue*
- Top overprint: "19" in BLUE-BLACK, "36" in PURPLE-VIOLET
- Bottom overprint: Left "22" in BLUE-BLACK, "CENTS" + Right "22" in PURPLE-VIOLET
- MNH OG, original gum, no hinge, never hinged
- Normal should be one color, this is clearly two inks
- Scott #283 variety - double surcharge in two colors?
-does this one have multiple errors?
Questions:
- Is this a known constant variety or a freak double print?
- Worth certifying as MNH error? What catalog value?
- Best place to certify Liberia errors - APS or Philatelic Foundation?

I am not an expert on Liberia stamps, but here are some observations:

The first block of 4 is 1897 Scott 64, not an 1892 Scott 31a. Scott mentions after the 1892-96 issue that many imperforates, part-perforated and misperforated varieties exist (with respect to that issue, but possibly may also apply to other issues such as the 1897 Scott 64). Beginning with the 1885 issue, used values are for CTO, which this block of 4 appears to be. Since it is fully gummed, it was not postally used, but cancelled with CTO, and possibly available as a favor. Note, this is speculation, not based on any data.

The second stamp with the overprint, appears to be Scott 256a. The overprint appears to be dark blue to the left of the design in the margin, but more of a violet (with some bluish areas) in the design itself. Perhaps the color variation is partially due to the overlap of the overprint with the stamp design. This may be an artifact of the scan. Nonetheless, the overprint is not solid, and appears to be somewhat translucent.

Others more familiar with these stamps may have more useful information.

There were lots of Liberian "errors" that were intentionally produced. I do not know if that is the case here.

I have 5 more of the singles. There is color shift in them also. I was told there was three errors in them. I was also told to have them insured for 400.00. I would like to know exactly what they are, their value and are they worth getting certified. I was told yes and no. I really need an expert opinion. Thank you for your time and reply. And yes the color does shift from blue to purple

I would direct your questions to the person who advised the "insured" amount. Not sure our answers would measure up.

For a range of sold prices, look at the sold listing on ebay, 79 come up on Liberia Errors.

Just because 79 come up. Don't mean it's the one I have, which makes values totally different I've been looking. Can't find them.

There is something off about that block.

I think if you were told to insure them for $400 (each, all?) and also told that there are 3 errors - was this person an expert knowledgeable about these (and hopefully not the person you purchased them from)? If so, then they should have more information on them. Otherwise, why are you asking us for our opinions before you get them certified/insured?

The guy said the single stamp has 22 cents value printed on the $2 stamp instead of the $2 value. And he said the block of 4 is impref. Between vertically, cancel to order, 13 dots in top ark, yellow missregistered. I was told to come here for more answers. I've been lied to before. I want to get other expert opinions and also everyone I ask, can't seem to give me the same answer. There us no stamp club where I'm located. I have been diagnosed with a terminal illness so I've been going through my collection to see what all I have before I leave this world. Would like to help my wife out by not leaving her with a big mess of billions of stamps. I have a whole room full from top to bottom. I can't seem to find this error on ebay, hipstamp or anywhere. I have 5 more of the 22 cents singles, mnh and I have a single of the block if 4 and it does not have the dots but dies have the color missregistered. Thank you for your time.
