Quote: Orleans, posted 7/25/2015 was postmarked with CTP 1850 - 1935 catalog # Hum-3900 in use from Mar 21, 1889 to Oct 2, 1890 Good morning, eight for today! Mendocino, posted in 7/26/2015, re-scanned and re-posted 1/24/2017. Modesto, in-bound Ukiah, Ukiah used their short-lived Ukiah City CDS (May 18,1888 to Jul 2,1888 = 46 days) as a receiver on the back side. Since the USPOD opened an office named Ukiah in Northern California, I'm not sure if the office was allowed to use a different name as a postmark. I've never seen this CDS used on the front of a cover. Maybe Mr. Becker could tell us what was allowed? Point Arena, Willits & San Fran. RPOs, a fun group, three postal cards (U1) from the same author aboard the North bound train (Tr16) addressed to same person. The messages seem to be written while at each station. I'll post them in the order they were written. Note that all three CDSs show the same break in the outer ring, a variety I refer to as NWP-985-U2a. Geyserville, 9 miles north of Healdsburg, Preston, 12 miles north of Geyserville, Hopland, 12 miles north of Preston, Eureka, and Dyerville. |

July 27 1951- Somewhere in Angola to Los Angeles, CA, USA Year is visible on third postmark from the left, however any hope of decoding the town was lost when the first strike was topped by the second one 1942 - US Navy letter home to Fresno, California @littleriverphil appreciate those correspondences. |

July 28 1947 - Lisbon, Portugal to London, England I am told that Swiss Bank probably requested an audit confirmation of an account located in a Lisbon financial institution providing the addressed envelope. |

Quote: Since the USPOD opened an office named Ukiah in Northern California I will not be of much help as I am not well-versed in California postal history, but the USPOD would not have opened a duplicate-named office in this era. What original source USPOD document are you getting this information from? (i.e., Postal Bulletins, site location microfilms, etc.) "Ukiah City": Hard to tell how these things happen.. It is of the style of a USPOD-made device, rather than the vanity county/postmaster ordered handstamps of the era. I know of a couple eastern markings with typographc errors which were essentially relegated to the "back desk" and are found almost exclusively as receiving marks, forwarded, advertised mail, nixie type items, etc.. Is there another Ukiah device with an eku at almost the same time? As for the dates of use, keep in mind the range is the range currently known to collectors, and not absolute or definitive. EKU/LKU extensions are found frequently. |

Good morning John, actually I assumed that USPOD opened the Ukiah, California post office, the only sources I've used are listed below, other than County history. As for another Ukiah device with an eku near the same time, a larger saw tooth 2 ring M. O. B. eight months earlier (with only one noted use date) and a similar sized device that the city used from Feb 1892 to May 1899. |

July 29 1926 - Portsmouth, Dominica to Mount Eolus, Dominica This registered letter did not travel far as the Mount Eolus Estate is nearby Portsmouth, in the parish of St. John, Dominica, The letter may likely have been collected at the Portsmouth post offiice; R.F Gallaway was chief magistrate for Portsmouth and maintained residences in both Portsmouth area (The Mount Eolus Estate) and the capital, Roseau. 1939 - Rosalie, Dominica to Grimsby, England A registered letter created by Roger Wells. Mr. Wells made the effort to generate covers from smaller post offices over the island of Dominica. 1895 - Bathurst, Gambia to Manchester, England Note the French influence in the British colony surrounded by Senegal. |
