August 4 1962 - North Brookfield, Mass. to Worcester, Mass. A special delivery letter that arrived the following day. The towns are 35 miles apart. 1944 - Georgetown, Cayman Islands to Willemstad, Curacao. This letter took 61 days to reach its destination. This registered letter was posted on August 4 in Georgetown. The slug for August (AU) is inverted. It passed through Kingston, Jamaica but we cannot see a date. It then passed through Panama on September 29. I can detect a receiving mark of 4 October inside the Willemstad postmark. ImageSleuth confirmed what I thought I saw. This was wartime and another possible delay could have been tropical storms, as it was hurricane season. |

Good morning, eight for today. Blue Lake, posted 8/6/2015. This postmark is cataloged by California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 as Hum- 680 recorded use was Jul 8, 1881 to Jan 7,1883 and is rated a 4 This cover was postmarked 4 years and 7 months later, must have lost track of Hum-690. Although addressed to Eureka, this cover has an unreported Arcata double circle postmark on the reverse, possibly a Registered postmark as it is very similar to later (1902 and 1928) Arcata Registered postmarks. I've also uploaded a crop of California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 illustration of Arcata postmarks, up to the 1920's. Caspar, a Town and County postmark, posted 10/17/2017 Fort Bragg to Germany Willits & San Fran. RPO, Tr1 Willits & San Fran. RPO Tr3. It will be another 9 years before the train reaches Humboldt County. Arcata, Fort Bragg, and Eureka & S. F. RPO, postage Due! Edit: added Hum-680 useage data |
