One could easily determine the size number of a glassine by simply noting the width of the envelope. These are the industry standard designations. Note the width of each envelope is different:

No. 1 - (1-3/4H x 2-7/8W)
No. 2 - (2-5/16H x 3-5/8W)
No. 3 - (2-1/2H x 4-1/4W)
No. 4 - (3-1/4H x 4-7/8W)
No. 4-1/2 - (3-1/8H x 5-1/16W)
No. 5 - (3-1/2H x 6W)
No. 6 - (3-3/4H x 6-3/4W)
No. 7 - (4-1/8H x 6-1/4W)
No. 8 - (4-1/2H x 6-5/8W)
No. 10 - (4-1/8H x 9-1/2W)
No. 11 - (4-1/2H x 10-3/8W)
No. 12 - (9-1/2H x 11W)
