What are "Indybucks" you ask?
Mimicing the Worthington Stamp Club's "stampbucks", the Indiana Stamp Club created an internal currency about a decade ago to reward volunteer service, attendance, and participation in various club events. They are spendable for any club activities such as dues, club auctions, and our dealers at Indypex. The program has been expanded to include all Indypex attendees, who will each receive (if I remember correctly) two Indybucks to spend at the show.

A talented team puts on this show. Well worth the drive.

So how is the show going? I couldn't make the trip but I have an exhibit there this year.

I was there on Friday. Lovely day for a drive. This year some of the usual suspect dealers were absent, as the show conflicted with the Omaha NE 100th Anniversary show.

On a sombre note, news going around the floor was that Jerry Koepp of Stamps N Stuff from Iowa, had just had a stroke, and the accounts were that it was quite severe. My best wishes to Jerry for a full recovery. I've purchased from him for almost 20 years.

I love the layout of the new facility (see pics above) as it allows for much more relaxed foot traffic when you're not crammed into tight aisles. For the second year in a row, the show was booked at the same time as a monster truck event, so the ambient noise level and bass was a bit disconcerting at times.

It seemed to me that foot traffic was down from prior years on Friday; hopefully it picked up on Saturday.

Of course, my first stop was with Denny Peoples. I purchased a small Iran lot from Brad Houser, and Rusty Shoaf had brought numerous Ottmar Zeiher stamp postcards for me. I chatted with Wayne Gehret for a bit, but unfortunately he didn't have anything for me. I spent quite a while just sitting and conversing with Rick Scott and picked up a few things. Hugh M. Clark had some nice revenue material that I went through. I bought an attractive RB from Dennis O'Brien. I bought a few billheads form Barking Wolf Postal History. The majority of my time was spent with Karl Groth from Michigan St. Antiques. He had brought a TON of carton lots and collections, as well as improving his stock of U.S. and foreign covers. I met up with fellow revenue specialist Lance Gunderson and we talked new acquisitions for a while.

No earth-shattering finds or acquisitions for me at the show this year. A few revenue plate variety cherrypicks, two of them quite lovely, but that's about it. I bought a carton full of world covers because the price was right. The most interesting item was a group of 4 billheads from the 1880s, all printed in metallic gold ink, which would have been quite the expenditure in the day for such a mundane document type.

Not going crazy with purchases at this show leaves more for the MSDA show I'm going to in 3 weeks and then CHICAGOPEX in November.
