What Did You Do Philatelically: Today Or Recently?

Ike, what specifically would qualify as not worthy?

I have a college student who cleans out houses and then sells any items of value. He will accumulate several boxes of stamp covers and then I go over and pick out anything of interest. Usually water damaged items but fun for several hours!

I ordered more mounts, a pack of glassines, and more watermark fluid.

I also sorted some glassines and yield two glassines with Cuba and Hungary stamps. Most were from the 70s and 80s with many CTO. Hungary did not create that many pure topical issues of flowers or animals and use historical figures and buildings.

Nicholas C -- stamps that did not meet the standards? Let's just say that earlier in my collecting I might have been too eager to add a stamp that had a thin, or was missing serfs. However, I was also more demanding about the stamps' backs; I did not want any that had hinge remnants or any trace of gum as I collect stamps that are "used." CTOs are acceptable, but they often had to be soaked as well. The time necessary for searching for better copies and soaking stamps has slowed my progress and sometimes meant that my total collection number is moving in the wrong direction even as the quality of the collection is moving in the right direction.

I sorted and mounted on Visio pages a handful of covers from the 1930's with cachets or corner covers from one of the stamps clubs active in that period. I am trying to identify and collect examples of cachet covers, labels, souvenir sheets or other printed matter from all of the stamp clubs active from 1930 to 1939.

I started with the clubs identified by Fields-Picklo and have been adding to the listing as I find examples from one club after another. The list is around 300 clubs and growing. I'm finding that even with the depression, people were VERY active collecting stamps. Quite impressive when you consider the methods of information exchange.

Tried to shoot the moon and complete two pages of Memel today but fell short one stamp on each page. Still some good progress either way.

I do not have any from Memel in remainder collections I have.

I've been building a simple spreadsheet to inventory world wide stamps that were part of a collection stored in 2 banker's boxes. I had already pulled many dozens of stamps that I needed for my main collection on Steiner pages and identified and stored everything else that was pre-1940 into glassines. The remaining stamps are on manilla stock pages, mounted on speedrille pages, or mounted on various Minkus pages. I've gotten through the speedrille pages and half of the Minkus pages and sit around 15,000 stamps. Going to be nice to use the spreadsheet to look something up instead of flipping through pages.

I was just saying Memel is not a country I found in the beginner remainder albums I have acquired,




I use StampManage to inventory my collection and still purchase stamps I already have because the inventory is not perfect.
