1 October 1967 - Dubai to Stuttgart, West Germany.
1946 - Dunedin, New Zealand to Suva, Fiji and twice forwarded. Judging by the ink, the first destination was Suva, then forwarded to Rabi (1OC46) where it was forwarded again to Hastings, New Zealand.
1951- City of Ozamiz, Philippines to Venice, Italy Gateway to Northwestern Mindanao, the most populous city in Misamis Occidental. Trying to determine the name of the postmark was complicated when the sender truncated the name in their return address to Zamiz. The poor strike of the rubber postmark did not help either.
Good morning, I began posting in this thread on the 6th of October 2025, so I am nearing the end of my little two County show n tell, until I add more cards and covers.
Seven for today.
Monroe,
a pair of Yosemite view cards apparently sent from Healdsburg aboard the Willits & San Fran. RPO, each with the same postmark variety!
Here are the Mobile Post Office Society's Willits & San Fran. RPO listing illustrations and the two constant varieties I have found. Remenber that RPO postmarks are steel and anything found in or missing from is constant.
I labeled these two as I did because they looked closest to the parent U number. The variety on the above postcards stayed in use from 1904 to 1908, when it was apparently discovered and removed from circulation. U1a was a long running variety. From 1903 to Sep 30th 1914 so far...
I collect most of California's Redwood Empire , Humboldt & Mendocino counties, including the RPOs that ran through them. Any town or city I mention is located in one or the other. My primary sources are California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 compiled by John H. Williams & the Western Cover Society Mobil Post Office Society RPO Catalog, MPOS U. S. Route and Station Agent Catalog, and the MPOS RPO Directory and AGT Directory California Postmaster Compensation compiled by Alan H. Patera
Hi littleriverphil, I have enjoyed your daily dose of armchair vacation, visiting so many tiny towns and villages that I have never heard of. That is quite an impressive collection and something that I look forward to reading each time I visit this site. Sorry to see it come to an end after a calendar year.
I also enjoy rainrainbow's worldwide selections and write-ups and maps, though I have more of a personal affinity towards the historical covers and picture postcards.
Thanks to you both, and the others who continue to keep this forum active.
re: Willits & San Fran No doubt you recall my comments earlier in this thread on the MPOS catalog noting that tracings were made from varying qualities of cancel impressions by collectors of varying tracing skills. The illustrations also lack the killers and have the rims "completed" (thus ignoring progressive damage), both of which can be useful in differentiating similar devices. Thus a caution not to rely too heavily on the listings as gospel, rather than your own actual "live" examples.
As for "missing vs constant" ... this will depend considerably on the strike quality. Quite a bit can be "missing" in a weak strike that is actually there, etc., and beyond the scope of this thread for fear of hijacking it into a tangent.
2 October 1958 - Upper Demerara River, British Guiana to Woking, Surrey, England. J. Lea, back in the 1950's was chasing postmarks of British Guiana and he had a list of out of the way places. T.P.O. UPPER DEM 81 travelled the river in the interior of the country now known as Guyana. Note the back stamp of WISMAR which is located down the river, and that it took 8 days to get there. There was still a distance to travel down river after Wismar before arriving in Georgetown.
1962 Bukit Timah, Singapore to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US. A registered letter.Bukit Timah is a residential area in Singapore. The postmark also contains an A after Bukit Timah and the number 21 which is inverted in relation to the A.
@Zebraman - thank you for the kind words @littleriverphil - your daily passages through a period of those specific locations in California has been educational, eye-opening, fun and amusing. It is an illustrated history, and I have been enjoying it since I first stumbled across your offerings. And that train & log card of the other day warrants another one of these , Thank you and if good things are ending, this will be missed.
Thank you all for your kind words. I obviously enjoyed posting the 1500 + cards and covers and honestly will miss posting each morning. This is a pretty well-read thread, with an average of around 100 views per day. Now if I could figure out a way to present the approximately 100 un-used postcards that are Redwood empire related... but first I need to finish the year.
Two for today, both from Ukiah.
Ukiah, a postal card, an entry for Napa County's Great Register. A great help for geneoligests.

1924 - Domestic letter leaving Saskatchewan to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Kamsack & Saskatoon R.P.O postmark, heading East. Kamsack is nestled in the scenic Assiniboine River Valley. Never heard about before. Guess no one has written a song about it yet.
1939 - Kuching, Sarawak to Wellington, New Zealand. A commercial cover with a censored marking.
1941 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Pointe a Pitre, Guadeloupe (West Indies). The postmark reads Federal It also reads 3 A T. I observed that the envelope was not censored which I thought was unusual given the date. However, that same year, the Brazilian government established strict monitoring sections alongside the Correio Aéreo Militar (Military Airmail) to track, censor, and process the mails. Mail by air was heavily restricted and routed strictly through centralized military control hubs during the war of which Federal 3 A T was one.
1931 - Agboville, Ivory Coast to Zuerich, Switzerland. Transit time was 18 days for this registered cover.
1951 - Georgetown, Cayman Islands to Tampa, Florida, US. Saltwater damage happened to this commercial letter.
Cape Mendocino Light, mis-sent I can not decifer the State in this postmark. Using Jim Forte's Post Office search I find 22 Harrisburgh offices. There were 11 post offices named Harrisburgh in the United States when this cover was mailed, one of them in California. Wherever it was sent from it took 17 days to arrive. Apparently California did not know where Cape Mendocino was ( it's in Humboldt County) so it was sent to the town of Mendocino, where it received three postmarks and was sent on. Here is a YouTube video about the Cape Mendocino light.

and Gualala, a RPPC of the 1906 earthquake damage to the bridge over the Gualala River.
