A registered cover to Henry Hechler.
Both Amoy and Hong Kong were opened or ceded to British influence under the same historical moment—the Treaty of Nanking in 1842, which ended the First Opium War and ceded Hong Kong Island to Britain while making Amoy a treaty port for foreign trade. However, Amoy remained Chinese territory with a foreign international settlement, rather than becoming a British colony like Hong Kong.

1928 - Aitutaki, N.Z. to Dunedin, New Zealand


Aitutaki is an island in the Cook Islands group. Registered letter to an NZ dealer.




185? - Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands to Indianapolis, Indiana, US.

SHIP letter passed through San Francisco in November (12?).



1946 - Georgetown, Cayman Islands to London, England.

A registered letter subjected to sea water. There was no report of a hurricane at this time. Was there a sunken vessel?


1945 - Cocos Island to Twickenham, Middlesex, England.


British Air Forces, stationed in Ceylon were sent to Cocos Island to clear land for an airstrip 1944. That cleared land is where the current airport is located.

The postmark failed to capture the town of departure.


1913 - British Solomon Islands Protectorate to Coffs Harbour, Australia

The arrival date at Coffs Harbour is October 9, 1913.





1903 - Pointe a Pitre, Guadeloupe & Dependencies to Paris, France

A registered cover. Collected by the French Mail Boat travelling between Colon, Panama and St. Nazaire on October 12.




1958 - Penrhyn Island, Cook Islands Group to Mokoga, Fiji

Makogai Island (commonly misspelled as Mokoga), is an 8.4-square-kilometer volcanic island belonging to Fiji's Lomaiviti Archipelago.
From 1911 to 1969, Makogai served as the primary, highly isolated leper colony for the South Pacific. At its peak in the 1950s, it housed around 700 patients from various Pacific territories. Letters to the colony could be mailed without stamps.
