Quote: FYI Astra is able to run AlbumEasy inside its workspace and use it to generate PDFs
TaylorHealey, thanks for letting me know. I hadn't actually heard of Astra until now, but it does look interesting. I will definitely give it a try. Clive |

Re: Astra AI and AlbumEasy
I tried this late last night and was impressed with the results. I asked it to produce AlbumEasy code for 1939 USA issues and the output looked flawless to me. Unfortunately, I did not copy or save the output, and when I went back this morning to try and duplicate it to post here, I found out that it required a subscription (which I am not willing to do).
This definitely has possibilities. Imagine being able to generate accurate AlbumEasy files on the fly ...
If you try it, you get one shot before you have to pay for a subscription.

@jbodo said: Quote:A simple straightforward "design-type" stamp album I built that uses your left-right facing pages concept is here: https://us-stamps-design-type.onren...-viewer.htmlI really thought the ability to own every US Stamp design 1847-1947 for less than $10,000 would be attractive, but so far - ZERO feedback. I liked the look of what you've done with the design types album, but the download links sadly don't work, "file not available on site". Is there any chance of correcting this please? Also, what page/paper size does the PDF file expect when printing? Many thanks. |

The link posted above in your comment doesn't work because it is "prefaced" by this - www.stampcommunity.org/go/link.asp?target= The correct link is " https://us-stamps-design-type.onren...viewer.html" I put it in quotes hoping it doesn't get changed as a hyperlink. Copy and paste it into your browser, instead of clicking on it. The pdf is letter size. if the preface gets put in again by this web site, then try going to classicstampcollector.com and you can find the design type album from the home page. |

Well, actually.. Clicking on the original link with the "target" prefix works, but if you copy/paste that link from your last message it doesn't work because it is a long hyperlink name and an ellipsis ... gets added to the middle of the name, so if you copy & paste that ellipsis it won't work. If someone wants to copy and paste, here is the full name, without the ellipsis, and without the http prefix (which is what causes it to turn into a clickable hyperlink). Paste that into your browser and the browser should add the https automatically. Computers, sigh. us-stamps-design-type.onrender.com/design-type-album-viewer.html Secondly, to @imperfectal's point, at least one of the PDFs on the site doesn't work, and says "Not Found". The URL for "Bryan Design Type Album.pdf" doesn't work -- https://us-stamps-design-type.onren...%20Album.pdfAll that said, Jbodo, I went to your site for the first time just now and it looks nice. I like the idea of the face-different stamp Classics stamp collection. For a beginner to try and identify the six 1-cent 1851 types or four different 10-cent types listed in an ordinary Scott National album is daunting. Many intermediate collections that I view don't even get the 7/9, 10/11 or 25/26 right. Having just one space for a 1-cent imperforate Franklin stamp is much more satisfying to fill when there aren't 5 other identical-looking blank spaces right next to it. Sure, one could buy a beginners album that doesn't include all the type variations, but those albums also leave out all the more expensive stamps, like #2, #37-#39, dollar value Columbians, etc. Someone can be a beginner and still have aspiration to buy the expensive stamps someday. But for the beginner to have to learn about flyspeck plating varieties on the earlies requires too much knowledge too soon, and takes all the fun away. Bookmarking your site to have a closer look later. |

Yes,, sorry. The link I copied was exactly that, just a cut/paste from the original post.
The point I was making was that the link for the "Bryan Design Type Album.pdf" gives a 'file not found' error. i.e. the link to the file on the site is either invalid or the file actually doesn't exist on the site.
I also got the same error when trying to download other links on the same page.
But I agree with ZebraMan, the idea of a 'face-different' collection should be an appealing one for beginners or those who do not have bottomless wallets!

Thanks for the feedback!
I checked the downloads and they all work for me. Maybe it's because I'm the author and there is some local connection happening.
I'm heading home from vacation today, so will have a deeper look this weekend. I'm sure it's an easy fix!

I determined that you are all correct - 3 of the 4 downloads are not responding to outside browsers. I will fix this when I get home this weekend. Thanks you for your patience!

Well, I had some time before my flight, so I fixed the problem - the pdf should upload to the web site so that you can review, print, or save on your desktop; the two docx files should download directly to you designated folder. Please let me know that everything works for you as expected.
Thank you for finding this problem.
I look forward to your feedback for improving my design type album design |

Cool, thanks. It works for me now.
I suggest that you continue the conversation about your album by creating a new thread in the US Classic Stamps area (versus the World Modern area where we are now), where it should attract more attention, and to avoid hijacking this thread from the original poster any further.
Back to the original topic of AI-generated album pages, specifically TaylorHealey's project with the Argentinian Belgrano issues, I think the "12th draft" is a major improvement. The wording is more consistent from paragraph to paragraph, and I see more of a storyline from beginning to end rather than a haphazard collection of unrelated facts.
The language is still a bit folksy for my taste, but that's OK, if it stays that way throughout the entire album, it could be a fun read and more accessible to a non-collector.
One bit that left me hanging and unclear was the point about the 'dots' at different plate positions on the 30c stamp. The page says, "These four clues lead to a bigger mystery: what if the entire printing method changes?"
Unless there is a missing page that wasn't posted, that question is left unanswered.
Other than that, keep at it. I encourage you to drive the storyline rather than letting AI decide what details it thinks are important. And it is still up to you to verify any "facts" and anecdotes that AI comes up with, whether hallucinations or simply misquoted from unreliable sources. |

John, I thought that I would give Astra a try to see how well it performed at generating AlbumEasy files. When I saw that it is actually part of ChatGPT, I thought I'd try the free ChatGPT to see how well it does. ME: "Can you produce an AlbumEasy file that can be used to generate a PDF stamp album using the free AlbumEasy software?"ANSWER: "Yes. I can produce complete AlbumEasy source files (.txt) that you can open with the free AlbumEasy software and use to generate PDF stamp album pages ....... Since you develop AlbumEasy yourself, I would be particularly interested in ensuring that the source I produce conforms to its actual syntax and capabilities, rather than making assumptions about how it works. ....."Definitely not the answer I was expecting, but I guess sometime in the past I must have mentioned something about AlbumEasy to it Anyway, after further conversation, ChatGPT gave me some good advice on how to add a page to my website with updated documentation and examples that it could use in the future. What I particularly liked were these two responses from ChatGPT: "I would like to make it possible for someone to ask ChatGPT to produce an AlbumEasy album and have it generate valid source code, rather than code that looks plausible but contains unsupported commands or incorrect syntax.
I would want to distinguish between commands that are documented as supported and commands that I merely think ought to exist. Avoiding invented syntax would be essential if this is to be genuinely useful to your users."Clive |
