Good day everyone, interesting thread I must say.
I inherited a few albums from my late father, who inherited albums from his father.
One of the albums has 258 Transvaal stamps , mint and used .
One of them is the renowned 5 Pound stamp, next to it a VRI .
From the previous info given on this in this forum, I would like someone to have a look at them and give advice on who to take to in South Africa.
I can email anyone the entire little album in pdf , and can email better photos if need be.
Thanks
Dean Conde

An old, old topic that I initiated but one of those mysteries that continue to intrigue. I was looking for a completely different topic and stumbled across this one. Maybe, in the past decade, there are new members on board who have not seen it and will find it of interest

Just to bring it up to date, by using the one suggestion and counting lines, it was pretty soon established that these were not forgeries, at least not common ones. Looking closely and consulting with various people came up with the expected opinion that they are indeed reprints. This conclusion is based mostly on the perforations and using the link in the previous post to make visual comparisons.

FLOORTRADER. Let's see. My committee of "experts" at the moment consists of four friends somewhat separated geographically. There is myself near Calgary, two from Edmonton and one from Saskatoon. We try to get together for a couple of days once or twice a year and each meet, we all bring something novel, or interesting or unusual. We look at them , talk through them, suggest avenues of research and just, in general, hash things through. Our references are whatever literature we can access and, believe it or not, the talent and expertise, yours included, that we find in this group.

Can we expertise? Of course not! We just have a good time speculating and enjoying one another's company. Last fall the meeting was in Saskatchewan and after meeting in Saskatoon for a weekend, we drove to Lac La Ronge and caught a small bush plane in to a fishing camp farther north in the province for a week. We called it a professional development retreat.

The hobby is just that. A hobby. We have never made money at it but it is the cement of many good friendships and a learning experience that we enjoy sharing. In a case like this particular set and a few others that we have run across, if it looked to be worth the cost before it was sold or auctioned, then yes, a professional opinion would be sought. Otherwise our research notes and speculations are there in the album for anyone who might care in the future.
