Anthony, I figured you would like the Czech stamps. Martin Mörck is certainly in the top five of current engravers as Andrew has shown with his recent work and he is only in his mid fifties and has barely reached his prime. So many of the great engravers of the past worked into their seventies, Slania seemed to get better and better, just look at his 1000th stamp for Sweden and then his 1001st stamp for Poland. Nethryk & stampgal, congrats on your new avatars. Should I call you Jules & Marianne from now on? Nethryk do you recall what the Mucha painting was appraised for thirty years ago? I can't seem to find any info as far as prices paid for his work whether recent or in the past. |

What make is yours btw? As you deduced I did buy mine on ebay. It came from Hong Kong and unfortunately I have thrown the box away. The mike has no brand or country of origin on it...but everything is made in China these days so the brand probably does not matter much. This one looks exactly like mine and the price has not changed much: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/25-200X-...em19c7c97f6ehope that helps, alex |

Thanks Alex.
That's pretty reasonable, cheap actually except for the shipping charges. |

Even though I live in Australia I am finding it very difficult to obtain information on the Australian engravers for the pre-decimal period.
Would anyone here know where I can find information on engravers like: Harrison (the son of the printer, I think); FD Manley (I have a little information on this one, but not much); P E Morriss (or spelled Moris or Morris I have seen all 3 spellings); B Stewart; D. Cameron and G Lissenden ?
Thanks

Yes I think mine was about $5 but the shipping charges were about $20 ...I think it's a way for them to pay ebay less...or it used to be. :) |

lithograving - Thanks. This is the same that avatar I've been using all along at other stamp collector boards; I'm just being consistent (plus I do bear a passing resemblance to old Jules). Perhaps stampgal and I should go on a "three hour tour?" As I recall, the Mucha painting was appraised at $150,000. - nethryk |

It's been exactly a year since stampgal started this thread with a stamp engraved by Czeslaw Slania.I thought it would be fitting to post a few more from the Master. Much of Slania's best work has already been posted here and on other threads but not these, at least I haven't. Terrific way to honour a great topic! Never gets tiresome seeing Czeslaw's Swedish jewels.
And all the other Engravers in this thread. |

Since today is this thread's anniversary, I too will post images of a couple of stamps engraved by Czeslaw Slania. These two stamps were designed after "Belle Époque" illustrations by Monacan artist Hubert Clerissi (1923-2000), and issued by Monaco on October 26, 1989, Scott Nos. 1695 & 1696. - nethryk Ship in Monaco port Gaming hall, Monte-Carlo casino |
