Roger Fenneteaux was an active engraver from 1943 to 1971. He produced only seven stamps for France, but many more for former French colonies. Here are six representative examples of Fenneteaux's skill with a burin.

Runner, designed by Lalloue Gambier, and issued by Morocco on August 30, 1961 as one of a three stamp set publicizing the 3rd Pan Arab Games in Casablanca, August 24 – September 8, Scott No. 55.


Fishermen casting nets, designed by Laotian artist Chamnane Prisayane, and issued by Laos on March 21, 1963, Scott No. 81.


African woman and carved head, designed by Jacques Gauthier (1931- ), and issued by Mauritania on April 12, 1966 to publicize the First World Negro Arts Festival in Dakar, Senegal, Scott No. 203.


Lioré-et-Olivier H.194 hydroplane and portrait of French Navy Lt. Bernard, designed by Pierre Gandon, and issued by Malagasy on April 28, 1967 to commemorate the first air link from Madagascar to France in 1926-27, Scott No. 401.


Beingolo hunting horn, designed by René Quillivic (1879-1973), and issued by Burkina Faso (Upper Volta) on March 1, 1971, Scott No. 236.


Javan rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus), designed by Duk Sokhon, and issued by Cambodia on August 1, 1972 as one of a six native animals set, Scott No. 295.

The engraved stamps of Czechoslovakia in the 1920s and up to the mid
Thirties did not have the name of the engraver inscribed in the frame
as became the custom later.

But the engravers found ingenious ways to include the initial
of their surname somewhere unobtrusively in the design area.

Here are some by the master engraver Karl Seizinger.

I noticed nethryk was getting kind of lonesome here on the engravers thread

Sverre Morken (1945- ) is an award-winning Norwegian banknote and stamp engraver. He attended Wood Carver Hjerleids Homecraft College at Dovre for two years, and in 1972 graduated from the National College of Art, Craft and Design in Oslo. He joined the Bank of Norway Printing Works the same year. Morken has designed and engraved over 150 postage stamps, primarily for Norway and the Faroes. Here are images of six examples of Morken's outstanding design and engraving work, all but one issued by Norway.

Training ship Christian Radich (featured in the 1958 film Windjammer, which I loved as a kid!), designed by Morken, issued on May 4, 1981 as one of three stamps in a sailing ships set, Scott No. 785, Facit No. 875.


Climbing the rigging, designed by Morken, issued on May 4, 1981, Scott No. 784, Facit No. 874.


Corps of Engineers building a pontoon bridge, designed by Fredrik Matheson, issued on April 26, 1988 as one of three stamps in a military jubilees set, Scott No. 927, Facit No. 1032.


Faroese horse, designed by Morken after a photo by Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson (1958- ), issued by Faroes on June 7, 1993, Scott No. 254, Facit No. 250.


Harald Sigurd Johan Sæverud (1897–1992), Norwegian composer, designed by Morken, issued on September 19, 1997, Scott No. 1174, Facit No. 1305.

Nethryk: scrolling down from the pontoon image to the Faroe horse looking out at me literally took my breath away. I haven't acquired a stamp in years but I just might look into getting that one.

Nethryk, it's nice to be back and heating up the scanner again.

I have some Norway engraved by Sverre Morken not shown yet which I will post later.
Morken is an excellent engraver and has his own
distinct style in my opinion.
