Stamp Day tribute to Belgian artist Jean Van Noten (1903-1982)
Engraved by Paul Huybrechts..quite a most prolific engraver. Here he describes his works in an article in Art Review.."As a master engraver, I am the author
of the engraving work for 50
stamps for the Belgian Government and 8 different coins in about 20 different executions. From the commemorative coin
of 500 BF over the first
official ECU (European Currency Unit) (5 and 50 ECU) to the 100 EURO-coin to commemorate the extension
of Europe to 25 members.
As a medalist, I executed about 1000 medals for all kind
of occasions. But I prefer free editions to commemorate the world's milestones. Besides that I am very involved in the world
of watches. I edited pocket watches with the portraits
of the royal family
of Belgium and different theme's like the Mozart year, the 500th anniversary
of the connection between America and Europe, or the 100th anniversary
of Rotary.
I am the engraver
of many dials for luxury watches for Vacheron-Constantin in Geneva, e.g. the Mercatorwatches, the Audubon watches, the Great Discoveries watches, and much more, including a watch for the king
of Thailand and a watch for the sultan
of Oman. All
of them are diffused worldwide.
I am also the engraver
of the saxophone
of Bill Clinton!"
Whew!
