Backtracking even further in the year, here is 9 January 1948 on a copy of Jaipur SG 80, the 3 Pies surcharge of 1947, paying the local postcard rate, used on an Indian ½ Anna postcard paying for carriage to the nearby State of Bundi (and with a Bundi DELiverY cancel of 11 January). (Bundi was also issuing its own stamps at the time.) |

A January 20th cover...always liked that Yale Station machine cancel that looks like a waving flag: |

There has been a break here. I have a different on again for the 25th. First Flight Cover but January???? Talk about Ice Pilots. Now, note the backstamp from Hamilton. Did they use the dogsled to get at least part of the way from Coppermine? Granted, I doubt severely that there was any sort of road connection at that date though I suppose a winter road of some sort may have existed. Again, dogsled? |

January 21 and January 23 are both missing so I shall toss this one into the mix. Fresh from the mailbox, so to speak. |

If I could backup to January 25th, I just found this oldtime First Day Cover: |

I'm guessing you like this type of cover, cancel date better than my other FDCs... Here's Jan 27 on the 27th - at least here in So CA it is still that date. I've been organizing my FDC's to topical, which makes it difficult here, but I'm looking to divest, so if anyone is intereste in FDC's of particular topical type (complete with the pages on which to display them) email me, and perhaps we can strike a deal. |

Distinctly late again, but here are the 25 January from Kannod and the 26 January from Indore Town on a rather ornate postcard for Indore (or Holkar, as it shows on the stamp. Indore was name of the capital of the State; Holkar was the name of the ruling family) And catching up with today's date, here anyway, The back and front of an Indian cover from Umballa (now written Ambala, in Haryana Province of India) to Calcutta in 1888 |
