Here is an image of "The Good Soldier Schweik," designed by Czech poster artist Zdenek Ziegler after an illustration by Czech painter and writer Josef Lada (1887-1957), combined engraved by Josef Hercik and photogravure, and issued by Czechoslovakia on September 10, 1997, Scott No. 3019. Jaroslav Hašek (1883–1923) was a Czech humorist, satirist, writer and socialist anarchist best known for his novel The Good Soldier Švejk, an unfinished collection of farcical incidents about a soldier in World War I and a satire on the ineptitude of authority figures, which has been translated into sixty languages. - nethryk |

Always interesting details in your posts, nethryk, I will look up the Good Soldier, sounds like a good read. A braille stamp from Thailand, 12-12-2009: Design details from Thailand Post: Illustrating blind students and the Statue of Miss Genevive Caulfield, an American blind lady, who initiated the founding of the Bangkok School for the Blind in Thailand. The special embossing technique is applied to make Braille message on stamp sheet for all blind people to understand. In one single sheet, words or phrases are arranged differently in each of 20 pieces. The translated text for this message is "We, the blind, can do more than anyone thinks. The blind asks everyone to stop fearing the dark to reduce global warming." Stamp Designer: Mrs. Parichart Thatsanatheb (Thailand Post Company Limited) |

Malta, 1989, part of a 5 stamp set issued for the 25th anniversary of independence from Great Britain. Shows people working and living in Malta (I think). (I should look this up in a catalogue to see what they call this stamp.) |

Canada 2008 Guide Dogs stamps issue (with Braile). These are pics saved from 4 years ago when I was using these stamps to mail anything and everything. Issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Montreal Association for the Blind. The first stamp and booklet in Braile issued by Canada. Front of booklet, showing Luke, a Golden Labrador Retriever in training. Back of booklet, showing two other Dog Guides, Boston, a Black Labrador Retriever, in training as a chore dog for people with physical disabilities, posed next to Luke. The inside of the booklet, showing one stamp with Luke on it (booklet was comprised of 10 such stamps) and Lee, a Border Terrier, in training as a hearing companion, posing on the margin. |
