Sorry wt1, I know very little. except that the station is now under ice and at one time was a US scientific station. which was transferred to the Australian government.

Worse than that ... It's now a toxic waste dump!

I cropped the image of the postcard in the original scan and using the reference stated in the above article, it appears the original postcard is using the E1c variant postmark:

70 of these postcards were included in a giant lot I acquired, and thanks to this article, I now know what they are! Yep, these doctors sure got around; not sure how the Vatican would have viewed Sodium Pentothal's non-medical applications. Note Netherlands Antilles, Ifni, Berlin (with Saar postmark), New Caledonia and Vatican City.

It's kinda like when you first learn the meaning of a word, and you start hearing or finding the word everywhere you look - now this lot makes sense to me. I just glossed over it when I first got it, and figured I had to time to figure out what I would do with them.

@IkeyPikey, I was as surprised as you were. I had not ever heard of Dear Doctor postcards, and when I found it in one of the lots, again, I wondered what the heck I'd do with them. After reading this thread, and the excellent article mentioned, I went over to one of the online sites, and lo and behold, there appears to be a market for these.
Interesting how they marketed Sodium Pentothal - and I found the Vatican one (and Ifni!) very interesting.

Heh. I just noticed the original thread was from 2015. I honestly have no clue how I found it - cuz I definitely did NOT type 'Dear Doctor' as a search term.

Fascinating, not seen these before.

It struck a cord, I am currently watching the 3rd Season DVD of "MADMEN"
It fits like a glove.

There is a variation of the Dear Doctor postcards - http://www.deardoctorpostcards.com/...risland.html

Dear Nurse Anesthetist instead of Dear Doctor. I found one of these awhile back and sold it on eBay last year for $22. No where near the price as the one in the article.

Interesting story about that Wilkes card and cancellation. I have to check and see if I have that particular one. I have others of these as I bought a pharmacists complete accumulation over 30 years ago. As St Pierre was one of my areas, I held on to it. Have to chase them down and post some.

My foggy memory "see"s 2 different Japanese Philatelic Week issues (the large art stamps) being used in different appropriate years, and also earlier, like 1959 or somesuch. So possibly more than one campaign for different drugs. Hopefully, No1philatelist can say yes or no to this.

I find it interesting that the Oz P.O. still agreed to handle the cards rather than just saying t'ellwivvit. Of course UPU member and all, they probably couldn't do that. And here is a US company taking advantage of cheap international rates to do advertising. Hmm. Nobody's doing anything like that today, are they?[insert sarcasm icon here].

Hy-brasil. Can't say with any certainty that I saw or have them. It will take me a little time to find out. Now where did I put them!
