United States Martin Ramírez March 26, 2015 Martín Ramírez (1895 – 1963) was a self-taught artist who spent most of his adult life institutionalized in California mental hospitals. He began his art work in 1948 and produced more than 450 drawings and collages. The five stamps feature (1) Untitled (Horse and Rider with Trees), created with crayon and pencil (1954), (2) Untitled (Man Riding Donkey), a gouache, colored pencil, and graphite drawing on paper ( ca. 1960 -1963), (3) Untitled (Trains on Inclined Tracks), a gouache, colored pencil, and graphite drawing on pieced paper ( ca. 1960–1963), (4) Untitled (Deer), a gouache, colored pencil, and graphite drawing on paper dates ( ca. 1960–1963), (5) Untitled (Tunnel With Cars and Buses), made with pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, and crayon on paper (1954).  |
