The first is a normal Swiss P.D. of the 1910 series:

But, I cannot identify this variation, with the "P" before and after the denomination:

And, I have also seen illustrations of the same stamp with an apparently overprinted number at the top:

Can anyone help identify these last two stamps?
Thanks.

jno, they should be in your Scott catalog. However, the last one is a "Portofreiheitsmarke", a stamp that was used by certain groups that do not have to pay for postage. Your example has # 126 which was issued to the "Asile du Jura at Ballaigues and from 1920 at Montcherand. The stamp was used between 1912 and 1937

Thanks for your responses. Scott does have the regular 1910/11 postage due issue, but doesn't cover any fiscal/revenue stamps at all.

These are all going into my "Stamps without Words" collection: stamps bearing no full words describing origin or purpose (at most the abbreviation of the denomination). From the Brazil "bullseyes" of 1843 to the current UK Machin definitives.

Apologies! My mistake. I found the "Portofreiheitsmarke" franchise stamps at the very end of Scott's Swiss entries.

Is there an online listing available of the institutions/organizations designated by the black control numbers at the top?

No, there is not. A more or less complete list is in the Zumstein spezialkatalog schweiz last updated in 2000.

To see the many varieties of these, you might look at https://www.ok24.ch//htm/anz.php?pa...-2050PM-193.
Scott hardly scratches the surface on some of these.

ETA: I see I added to a rather old thread. Oh well. It might come up in someone's search.
