Like most folks, I enjoy adding items to my albums which do not typically have preprinted pages. I feel these kind of non-typical items add interest to a standard album. So in my US collection I have added pages for Kansas City Roulettes, Control Perfins, Fancy Cancels, etc. I also have enjoying collecting coils stamp leaders and trailers and they are shown below. If anyone has any of these they would like to sell, please let me know.

Or try to find them on cover. Two commercial uses and the third one philatelic.

Hi Don,

Let me know if you are interested in these two and an offer.

MNH for both. Will provide scans for reverse side if interested.

I was always curious as to why there are leaders on opposite sides...

These blank tabs were perforated flat plate stamp perf. 10 (9.95) earlier and perf. 11 (10.95) later rather than perf. 10 (9.85) which is what Stickney rotary press coil stamps were perforated. Thus, the perforations on the tabs do not match those on the coil stamps.

Don, I miss the leaderstrips of the modern coils in your showing. Do you need those also? I have a few of them that you can have if needed.

Very nice! I enjoy leaders and have a few of the wash franks (don't want to sell). Siegel Auctions has a beautiful #457 strip and a spectacular #459 strip in one of their current auctions. Note the perforations inn the #459 leader tab. Very cool piece! I refer back to jogil's post as an explanation to why they are there.

Don, you might want to check this seller who is listing a half-dozen or so coil ends.

Haw there been any kind of study or survey regarding the use of ink colors on these strips by denomination or year? While the brown paper seems to be consistent across your specimens, ink varies: green, black, red, blue, not necessarily linked to the primary stamp color.

Which leads to another question: Studebaker, do you have a certain scheme by which you order your collection?

I am not aware of any listing or categorization of coil leader printing colors/types.

No real scheme to these coil pages; they are from my US album which is in chronological order.

Don, as a thank-you for your contributions to this forum I have just posted you an example of a modern coil leader, for the "Uncle Sam's Hat" definitive. It has been marinating in my collections for a while after I bought a Hat coil from USPS, but I don't have a good place for it.

I have seen far more leaders from the 20's and 30's then from the 50's unless they were on full coil rolls. I suspect that a lot more collectors were interested in them at that time.
