thanks for posting all these wonderful stamps. Going through my accumulation of Austrian stamps that didn't fit into the 1840 - 1940 bracket I'd already decided they were so attractive I had to extend my collecting period and these images have just increased my determination. I have even managed to snag a nice album to house them!

I love the way he uses chiascuro to emphasise the design and crank up the emotional element, the stamps have great impact I think

Thanks again

Hi crispinhj

I'm glad you like the stamps and appreciate your
comments.

One reason I like to post these examples of engraved
stamps is to honour the men and women who created
these little beauties.
These engravers were craftsmen in every respect,
experts in their field and they produced in many
cases works of art.

I'm also hoping that collectors just like you will see these
on here and then acquire them for their own collection.

My belief is that if stamp collecting will survive into
the next 50 years or so then it will be partly because of
the interest in engraved stamps.
