As I have written in my previous post, the Czech Republic continued to issued more stamps about art treasures of Prague Castle. Here is a sheet, designed and engraved by Milos Ondracek, issued on May 28, 2014 contains two identical stamps show detail from "The Olympian gods assembly" by Peter Paul Rubens (1577 – 1640) from the Prague Castle art collections: The stamp probably shows goddess Aphrodite (Roman: Venus) standing in front of Zeus: The SS margin, which is also engraved by Ondracek, shows the complete art work. From the figures, I can identify: in the center, god Zeus, father of the gods. In his left, Hermes and Ares. In his right side, Poseidon, Athena and Hera, his wife. Beside gods, there are many other characters like Ganymede, Pan, Helios riding his Sun chariot, Hercules, Cupids, Nymphs etc. (Since I didn't find any information about this art work, this description is my own and I can be wrong): |

One of the best sets of space exploration stamps I know was designed by Jaroslav Lukavsky, engraved by Jan Mracek or Bedrich Housa and issued by Czechoslovakia on April 27, 1964. Although I have the stamps on covers, worth to show them here: 30h: Yuri Gagarin, first man in Space 60h: Gherman Titov. 80h: John Glenn. 1K: Scott Carpenter. 1.2K: Pavel Popovich and Andriyan Nikolayev. 1.4K: Walter Schirra. 1.6K: Gordon Cooper. 2K: Valentina Tereshkova and Valery Bykovsky. |
