The artistry that engravers use and their skills was the biggest reason I started collecting. When I was told at the wee age of 5 years old that some guy sat down and scrapped, etched, scratched this piece of metal and turned it into a picture good enough to be produced on paper using ink. I was hooked. I could not believe anyone could be so skilled. I'm so glad I was wrong. I have discovered amazing stamps from all over the world that truly beg the question of "how did they do that."

Thanks for sharing your stamps, and creating this post. We should celebrate engravers more.

Thank you Stamp Hunting for your nice comments.

I also got started on stamps quite early when my grandfather
showed me some stamps, explained to be careful in handling them,
how hinges worked and gave me a small stock book filled with stamps.

I was interested in all types of stamps, not just engraved.
It was only after I bought a scanner and could see the fine details
of these tiny works of art that I became fascinated by the
beauty of engraved stamps.
