Antoine Dezarrois (1864 - 1934) engraved the 1930 3 franc definitive.

Check out the Phil-Ouest site
http://www.phil-ouest.com/Timbres.p...re=DateVente

Here is a Google translate from the French

Antoine Dezarrois engraved only one stamp, that of the cathedral of Reims in 1930 (that of 1938 being a reprise of the first).
He was professor of engraving at the Ecole Estienne where he had Pierre Gandon as a student.
In 1929 he was appointed professor and head of engraving and engraving workshop at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris,
there was in particular Albert Decaris as a student.
Antoine Dezarrois engraved mainly for the illustration of books.

Dear graphis, on the DESCARTES maquette you mention that 'You can see the correction pasted on the image',
are you referring to the DE word before LA? What was there before the correction, if you know.

Hiker275....
A stamp was issued in June1937 for the 3rd century of the publication
of Rene Descartes' " Discours de la Méthode " but the stamp
was inscribed Discours sur la Méthode

The two stamp variations can be seen on page 1 of this thread posted by Lithograving.

These modern French intaglio printings have lost the "feel" of the artists' touch. They appear mechanical, computer-assisted, and cold.

The thread on Italian engravers went into some detail on these changes. It is sad to see this "progress".
