Austria was occupied after WWII by the four Allied Powers.
The US,Britain & France issued a definitive series between
28 June/November 1945, all values printed in stone lithography
by the BEP in Washington.

In the Russian occupation zone the first definitives were
locally printed in Vienna by the Austrian State Printer.
The low and mid values were printed in typography and/or
offset but the four high Reichsmark values were engraved.

In 1948 Austria issued a stamp commemorating the 30th Anniversary
of the First Republic with the image of Dr. Karl Renner who
was the first president of the 1st Republic and also of
the Second Republic.

Designer & engraver : Ferdinand Lorber

Scott 557 1948

When Renner died in 1950 Austria issued a memorial stamp
for him.
The printers re-used the 1948 die, changed the inscription,
colour and paper.

Scott 573 1951

Since it worked worked well 2 times, why not go for three.
In 1958 for the 40th Anniversary of the First Republic the printer/engravers
reworked the same die, this time changing the
the inscription, the value and colour.

Scott 636 1958
