Austria issued a stamp for Austria's President Adolf Schärf's 70th Birthday in 1960.

Designer : Adalbert Pilch

Engraver : Georg Wimmer

Scott 651

For Adolf Schärf's 75th Birthday the State printer had prepared & printed a new design.
When Schärf died on 28 February 1965 the printer added a black border via typography and
issued this for his birthday on April 20, 1965.
So now instead of a Happy Birthday it turned into a memorial stamp.

Designer : Adalbert Pilch

Engraver : Georg Wimmer

This means Giori-printing - 2 colours fromn ONE plate/cylinder....

Have a good look at where the "colours" meet, the borders should be moving!

Florian, I also have an old 1968 Michel Europa and I agree
with the blauschwarz = bluish black for the statue.

But I just don't see schwarzviolett = blackish violet
for the colour of the landscape and the frame.
I see no violet anything but more of a grey(ish)blue.

Scott only lists one colour, bluish black for #744.

Rein, I can't see any of the inks bleeding as you would expect
to see if the stamps were printed by the the single pass, one plate
Giori process.

What do you mean by

Quote:

I have 5 copies of Austria Scott 744 3 mint, 1 used and one
on a FDC and none show bleeding or any mis-registration.

Here is one of the mint I just scanned.

I can't see any bleeding when I zoom in

Below I combined the two , the left one I posted yesterday I had scanned years ago and the one on the right I scanned today.

If the Österreichische Nationalbank used
2 separate plates then they sure lined them up pretty good.
