What else do the outback people do?

Steve you should tell them about the Alice Springs Regatta

Yes I know what it's like to come a cropper on you motorbike also to round a corner at night and come to a sudden stop with cows wandering all over a country road.
Marty they look good but only a couple are the real McCoy.

regards Harry

Marty those are interesting items..i would consider them collectible..i have a fair sized back of book collection of Guatemala fakes and forgeries..those inverted overprints and red overprints on a stamp that should be black that they list on ebay..theres no way they could all be authentic..so bid accordingly !

Alice Springs (The Alice) is in the centre of Australia. Although the Todd River goes through The Alice, it does not flow very often. So a little improvisation is called for, if you want a yacht race.

Being new to US stamps, I have no experience with fancy cancels. They strike me as being faked though as they're so well centred, and particularly the pairs. You need to have the pair to see the whole cancel, and you conveniently do have a pair - not only the pair, but one that suits the cancel, ie either a horizontal pair or a vertical pair, nicely sized so the cancel fits. Just seems a bit odd.

That's my 2 cents. Or 4 cents.

We don't do anything to our sheep, but eat them. Were not New Zealanders you know.

You're welcome to some lamb chops from Guatemala if you wish. Ah, yes, New Zealand ... do they use their sheep for cheese and wool products? We have lots of New Zealand cheeses in Guatemala. Only in the capital city area, though.

I've heard about Alice Springs but was not sure what went on there. The regatta photo is another good Aussie photo. Are there any stamps on sheep or Alice Springs?

About a year ago, I saw some postally used covers on ebay with the exact same bear cancel and it was carefully centered on the stamps. It was possible, of course, that the covers were faked as well. The bear was one of the reason I bought the set.

Keep the comments on fake cancels coming...I'm learning a lot from this thread.

Marty

Thank you for the offer of lamb chops, but I don't think they would get through our customs.
N.Z. certainly use their sheep for wool products, not sure about sheep cheese though.
I will start another thread for the sheep stamps.

Stu,
are you telling us via the link that the cancels in this thread appear in the standard references? i.e. "Foster Loso and Heyliger deWindt wrote the first catalog/book on 20th C. Fancy Cancels, which then was revised in 1987 by William Walker and H.R. Fishback."

Thanks for the link, Stuart. I went to it and then decided to search more and found this site on which I found several of the cancels I have shown on this post. http://www.hgitner.com/shop/167-us-...ancel-covers

Comparing my fancy cancels with those for sale on cover on the hgitner.com site, I have identified all but three of the 20th century cancels. The two 19th century cancels are not included. The three that I could not identify are 1) negative "P" and "O"in what looks like an open book, 2) negative squarish "0" or "O" and 3) negative anchor.
