This thread is for images of the Sydney canceller numbers on NSW state stamps in your collection (not those that can be found online from various sources).

Dated examples would be great, to provide more information on when they were in use.

As an example, here's a number 41 canceller used 4th November, 1905:

Do you want part numbers? or just CDS (Circular Date Strikes)
I have a part strike ?5 with rays on an 1862.

Is this of any use?
Number 49 on Sc#44 (Presuming it to be Sydney)

Sc#79 1888 1902 Number 30

Rod222, your second stamp is the type I'd like to see in this thread - thank you.

It is a SYDNEY CDS with the canceller number shown and the date of usage.

The first of your postmarks is one of the numeral cancellations of New South Wales - 49 of Wagga Wagga - it belongs in this thread:

Thank you.
May I ask why it must be our own stamps? Curious.
I have an image of 1897 Number 14 on a cover, from a Stamp Magazine,
would this not assist your research?

Of course you may post whatever you think is appropriate Rod, I am encouraging collectors to share what is in their collection so that we can add to what is already 'out there' on the web and get an idea of what is common or not among our members.

It might also encourage collectors to have a hunt through some of their more common stamps to see what they can find - we might see some early and late dates (on NSW stamps) for some of these numbers.

Your 14 would be interesting from the magazine - please share it.

Thanks Jason - it's the right type of SYDNEY postmark but we need to be able to see the canceller number at the base - see numbers 41 and 30 posted above.

Not sure how to read these cancels properly as there seem to be different formats regarding placement of the time/date, but if they are of any use...

...if that is a canceller number, unfortunately it's not that sharp/clear.

I think maybe the canceller number didn't make it on this stamp?

Indeed, Kim.
It is going to be very difficult to get both the canceller number AND part SYDNEY on any NSW stamp, the canceller ring, was bigger than the contemporary stamp size.

From The Postal History of NSW p.55, White types D1 - D5.

These were in use from 1858 to 1867.

Thanks for the scans Bobby De La Rue and Rod222.

khj, your first stamp is North Sydney with NSW at the base, rather than a canceller number. Shame about the missing canceller number on that nice second one.

In addition to an idea of how common these numbers are in our members' collections (not very, so far!) I will keep a record of the earliest and latest dates found for each one.

Some numbers have different types used over the period under study.

Here is one of the later Sydney number 13 cancellers, postmarked 13th April, 1907:

Further types: D7, D9, D11, D12, D13, D14, D15

FDS, feel free to use these scans if you'd like.

After I've finished showing the different devices, I'll provide some information on code letters/numbers for each type.

Thanks Bobby De La Rue - beautiful strikes of those types.

My intention was to keep a record of the tally for each numbered canceller and a running record of the early and late dates for each type and number - possibly the numbers found from type D13 onwards.

However, your posts encourage me to expand the list to the earlier types you have shown with the check letters and time codes. I look forward to seeing more of your collection and the associated information for the types.

Members are encouraged to upload any NSW stamp that has SYDNEY (or part of it), a clear date (the time doesn't need to be visible) and enough of the canceller number (or time/check codes) that it can be read.

Here is a Sydney canceller 15, postmarked February, 1908:
