Quote: I would like to plate this stamp. It looks like type II.
Any suggestions on which plate to start searching?
Wow, what an amazingly looking stamp! Maybe should I start studying these stamps, even though most types are generally expensive and/or hard to get... |

There's a lot of material I'm trying to fill, and I'm starting to branch out more from my big Great Grandfather topic in a different forum category. Among the holes I would like to fill is the imperforate 10c Washingtons. I started only with Type III's/15's and a faked 16 with my collection, and since then have filled the Type II/Scott 14 and Type I/Scott 13 Washington 10 cent (the latter with a PF cert 499684 and former a Crowe cert 16527). I just need a Type IV/Scott 16 to complete the 10c imperfs, and I am hoping it will be the double recut (top and bottom) 64L1. The Scott 8A I found earlier was sent in for a Doporto cert, partially as a trial run to see what the process was like. It was correctly identified as a Type IIIA, but the position was different on the cert as 48R4 |

Hello everyone! I found that 3c Washington for sale, described as #11A unused. I plated it as 61L2L, am I right? Also, I would like some opinions about that stamp, I am wondering if I will buy it. It's a bid, and I'm wondering if that's worth it to get it for over 40$ CAD... I just ask for opinions on that stamp so then it could help me make a decision. Edit: there seems to be a problem with the picture... |

I got this nice #10A today tied on cover (folded letter) with a July 26 1851 Boston town cds. It also has the Boston red small Paid cancel used for that month only. I've given a small go at plating it, but so far the details I've identified are not enough to give it a sole ID, narrowing it down to 15-20 possible locations. Apologies if the scan is too small to see all the details. I am pretty certain of the following:
- It is a B relief from plate 1e or 1i
- The color is orange-brown
- It is a recut on the right inner line only
- There is no guide dot.
- The bottom margin is large enough to believe it is from the bottom row (91-100)

I already started plating it, but could you please show a better scan of the stamp? I can't see well many details that would help me. |

I'm struggling to get a higher detail image. I will do my best, but otherwise I will need to try to solve it on my side. |

Hi oiman -
I am almost certain that your stamp with the red small Boston PAID cancel is position 100L1E -- but hard to be sure as to the state of the plate given the scan quality.
Position 100L1 is really easy to tell the difference between the Early and Intermediate states of the plate -- as on the Inter state there is a consistent dot of color in the E of CENTS -- (but no dot of color on the Early state).
I see no dot of color in the E of CENTS in your scan -- but sometimes the dot is very faint -- and your scan quality is not the best.
If you could post up a 1200 dpi scan I should be able to nail the state of the plate definitively. But, if you cannot do that, then take a high powered glass to the stamp and confirm if the dot of color in the E of CENTS is present or not.

Hi Oiman -- No dot in the E of CENTS nails your stamp as position 100L1E. Here are scans of both 100L1E and 100L1i for reference. Regards // ioagoa 100L1E is here: 100L1i is here |
