I also have this 30 cent stamp and have tried to get it close to the actual color of the stamp. I noticed a gash on Ben Franklin's head and wonder if this is a scratch on the plate that may tell its' position?

Chipshop, have you tried to scan with a black background? That tends to work better for me.

Orange and orange/yellow are tough colors to scan.

We appreciate your effort, but we will never see it as you do or its true color because of our different systems and their settings.
I tend to think the ink on Ben's forehead is pulled ink, but don't know.

Just some #26s with a variety of colors. The stamp at top left has a superb impression, and a color very similar to the 1856 imperforate yellowish rose reds.

In the upper left stamp you can see all of the fine detail in the bust. That's pretty nice.

The cancel on the #38 appears to be New Orleans.

Corollary to the discussion of green cancels on the 1851 imperforate thread -- here is an example of a green cancel on a Scott #26 -- this one being position 60L15 -- and the cancel being from Clarksfield, Ohio.

That's a nice, face-free, green cancel, ioagoa.

Here is a #26 with an undamaged transfer above lower-left rosette:

Here are six different examples of how the damaged transfer above lower-left rosette was recut to make the white space less conspicuous (I don't have an example of a damaged transfer that was not recut).

In the sixth image, the samller damaged area to the right was also retouched:

I don't know the plate positions of any of these. If anyone can provide the plate position for any of these, or point me to a resource for plating 3-cent stamps from the perforated plates, I'd appreciate it.

CC - I know very little about the top row repairs, however, your post woke up "Deep Cert", who does know. He was motivated to do plating from the pieces you posted.

First is 8R11E, a 26A. DT to NW in LL rosette center.
Second is 5R25, repair is 2 vertical lines
Third is 7R'Z'E, which is plate 21
Fourth is 3L9E
Fifth is 2R25
Sixth is 9R20, double repair

He confirms that there is no good publicly available resource for plating 26/26As.

No. There are people out there who are at the forefront of 3c plating, but who choose not to participate directly on chat boards. I respect that, and am happy to occasionally pass along messages.

I have full confidence that the information is accurate.

txstamp, I'm certainly glad you're here. If it wasn't for those willing to share on this site.., well I'd be a lot worse off in my collecting.
