Sea expeditions - 2v

The stamp remembers the 250 years of the artic russian expeditions.

Aleksei Ilyich Chirikov (1703–1748) was a navigator and captain who along with Bering was the first Russian to reach North-West coast of North America. He discovered and charted some of the Aleutian Islands.

In the stamp, some crew of 'St Paul' ship is joined in the deck, while one man observe with a hand telescope the land by far.

Here is the high value 70 + 35 (pf) stamp (Mi # 803) from the Federal Republic of Germany's April 17, 1974 "Elements of International Youth Work" charity semi-postal set of four. A young girl is depicted using a microscope.

On May 16, 1989 the DDR issued this se-tenant pair of stamps with label (Mi #W Zd 802) in a traditional sheet format to commemorate the centenary of the Carl Zeiss Foundation in Jena. The 50 pf value (Mi #3252) depicts the Jeneval interference Microscope, and the 85 pf value (Mi #3253) shows the Bicoordinate Measuring Instrument ZKM 01-250C.

Here are the 40 pf values from the DDR's two 1953-4 "Five Year Plan" definitive series. Stamp on the left (Mi #375) is from the offset-printed set, and stamp on the right (Mi #418) is from the typographically-printed set. A laboratory worker with microscope is depicted.

This .09 quetzal airmail stamp (Sc #C612) of Guatemala was issued on December 21, 1976 to commemorate the centenary of The School of Engineering at San Carlos. A surveyor at his transit theodolite is depicted.
