Russia 1991 Sea expeditions - 2v The stamp remembers the 250 years of the artic russian expeditions. Aleksei Ilyich Chirikov (1703–1748) was a navigator and captain who along with Bering was the first Russian to reach North-West coast of North America. He discovered and charted some of the Aleutian Islands. In the stamp, some crew of 'St Paul' ship is joined in the deck, while one man observe with a hand telescope the land by far.    |

On May 16, 1989 the DDR issued this se-tenant pair of stamps with label (Mi #W Zd 802) in a traditional sheet format to commemorate the centenary of the Carl Zeiss Foundation in Jena. The 50 pf value (Mi #3252) depicts the Jeneval interference Microscope, and the 85 pf value (Mi #3253) shows the Bicoordinate Measuring Instrument ZKM 01-250C.  |
