Seems to be out of commission today, but I use it often and it always works. Probably back on line tomorrow. (I hope)

Just checked; still down.

Don't apricate a (free) tool until it's not available.

Anyone know how to contact administrator? Maybe express how appreciative the community is with the free service.

Maybe next time I'll pay more attention to the how and why the service is provided.
Pat

Found the Retroreveal developer at the university of Utah. She still works there.

Left a voicemail inquiry, hopefully will hear back.

For those looking for an alternative, several years ago when RetroReveal was down I wrote a small app called PMGS Reveal that does many of the same things, though on a much smaller scale due to limitations in the image manipulation software I use. You can download it for free here.

Many graphics applications also support 'split channels' function (which is what RetroReveal basically does). Simply split out the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) channels and then try some different Contrast filters on the new channel images.

(One more step)

Received this reply from the university.

"As of August 1, 2018, the Marriott Library transferred ownership of the retroreveal.org domain and licenses for the software to Hal Erickson.
***email address removed by Mod as per rules***"

Guess we'll have to see what Hal is up to.

Four years ago back in 2018 the new owner -re-registered the 'retroreveal.org' domain name through 8/31/2027.

So we know that the site is not down due to a domain name issue. And we know that the site is not down due to a DNS issue since it cannot be reached using the IP address rather then the domain name.

This means that the site is probably down due to a hosting issue. I do not know who was hosting it (private or commercial) but either way the amount of hard drive space for the 'retroreveal.org' site is HUGE. They were storing the images on the site and they never removed any of them for as long as I have been using it (11 years). The number of images they were storing was just growing and growing. And like most donation funded website, they would have been lucky to have at least 1% of the users actually helping by sending them any donations.

So my opinion is that the lack of hard drive space has probably caused a website hosting issue and the owners are trying to figure out a workable (financially feasible) solution.
