Hello, I would need your help to classify this Switzerland postmark on a 1960 stamp YT#CH644A. I am resuming my stamp collection after many years stop, and I am finding many surprises in my old stamps since I had never noticed the postmarks.
The mountain pictured is the Matterhorn and this is most probably a part of a machine cancel celbrating the 100 years jubilee of the first ascent of the Matterhorn which took place in 1865. The years you see at the beginning of are probably 1865 and 1965 and CER is the start of the French name for Matterhorn CERVIN.The French text at the bottom can be translated ...100-years first... . I canoot say where this cancel was used. Zermatt is the place most connected with Matterhorn but there they normally use postmarks in German.
Thanks, thanks, thanks!! This is great information!! I'm really starting to enjoy my old used stamps a lot more than the new ones...Because of details like this, I think that the value of used stamps is very high historically, with nothing to envy of the new stamp.
