ST. HELENA #66 (SW.COM): 1922 Three-penny King George V and Landscape

For today…canceled March 30, 1954 at Grayson, Kentucky, the county seat of Carter County in northeastern Kentucky. Situated on the Little Sandy River, this small city is on land that was awarded after the Revolution to Gen. George Washington's aide-de-camp, Col. William Grayson.

Recently received a binder, with pages of stamps from Finland... with dated, cancelled stamps almost every day, every month, from 1920 thru 1930. Didn't know this was a way to collect... been collecting since 1958, 28 years in the APS, and never saw this before. Further proof, you learn something every day, in philately.

For today…canceled March 31, 1946 at Saint-Elie, capital of the former Territory of Inini in French Guiana. Inini, a gold-mining region named for the Inini River, was dissolved as a Territory in 1969 a few years after French Guiana had become a Department of France.

April 1 may be an appropriate date for this postmark.
I understand that there are some fabricated postmarks of the Japanese occupation and I may have just posted one of them. I hope to learn more about this skullduggery over the coming years. Maybe I have been fooled.

It is now summertime in the Philippines, with the sun passing over the equator in the last dozen days and school is out for summer. I am returning to the family farm in the mountains of Mindanao at this time. I expect to return in late June.

I appreciate seeing your postings and I of course, enjoy finding something to post as well. This has been quite a journey of learning. Carry on posting and remember the words of General MacArthur.

Also for today…canceled April 1, 1938 in Finland at Turku (Finnish name) / Abo (Swedish name),
regional capital of Southwest Finland located on the Baltic Sea at the mouth of the River Aura. Turku/Abo is the oldest city in Finland, originally belonging to Sweden. It is still officially bilingual. It was the first capital of the Russian Grand Duchy of Finland.
