And here's one I just like: Oakland, Oregon. July 22, 1861. Strip of 6 (positions 1-6R8) of perforated 1857 issue paying the double 3˘ rate (˝ to 1 oz.) letter to Roseburg, OR. Oregon was admitted to the Union as the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. |

Nice. and as long as you mention it, here's one of my Chips cover from neighboring Washington: (yeah, it's probably just a bit late for this thread, so to keep it on track, here's a Chips cover from in-period: (and here are a bunch more "Chips" covers: https://cgpostal.com/chips/index.html |

The Boston Wells Fargo usages are really nice items. Being a Texas postal history collector, in spite of this cover being in a less than great appearing state overall, I really like the Corsicana postmark here. |

 67-69R1E 68-70R1E A couple of first month - July 1851 covers franked with 1c Ty II (#7) stamps. First month usages of 1c stamps can be tough to find. |

 Feb 7, 1852, Austin to San Antonio, TX. Fancy paid 3 c, in the design of the coin of the period. Notation that this was charged to an account. Very scarce Austin usage for this time. |

@stampcrow - very nice.
This shows if its "missent", i.e. an error by the PO, the forwarding is free, whereas if it had not been missent but needed forwarding, the forwarding fee would have been charged. |

For those interested, there are a lot of forwarded and missent covers on the PF site; there are some serious collectors of that material. |

I have this year-dated straight line cancel. I would love to identify the specific marking, but I don't even know what year this is showing. Initially, I thought it was 1853, but that cannot be as this is a Plate 6 stamp (65L6) - which came into use in 1856. It could be 1856, but Simpson's only lists one 1856 year-dated cancellation - it is a straight line (Green Island, NY), but the tracing is not a good match. Any ideas? |

I have this pair of stamps with Wells Fargo Boston handstamps. It looks like a single strike, but the stamp scan has the original position of the stamps on cover reversed - there are 2 strikes. I imagine this handstamp used as a cancellation is unique. These stamps are 37R1L and 36R1L. The Western Express Companies 1850-1890 lists this marking as WFE-101, Type 03-12 and says there are 2 or fewer covers known. |

Nice - that WF Boston goes well with chipg's cover above.
Almost all known copies in this thread.
edit: re: The Western Express Companies 1850-1890
I just updated my copy to the latest - ver 6 I think. There have been a lot of changes since the original, from many years ago. The current version to me seems to be a really great reference, having expanded and corrected a lot of issues with the original release per my understanding. |

Philazilla, it looks like the left stamp belongs to the right of the right stamp and you are missing two more stamps making up a strip of four (or more?) on your Wells Fargo's |

 On the reverse : On the Western Express theme, here is a nice Langton's Express usage, franked with 1c Ty IV (#9) stamps to cover the government-required postage, in spite of this being carried out of the mails by Langton's. |
