They are indicia from stationery. They, also, are known as cut-squares or cut-outs. They, once, were popular and you could find them in stamp albums. Nowadays, collectors of stationery and postal history want entires and most stamp collectors are not interested in them. You can find an example of an entire here: https://goscf.com/t/27717 |

My 1978 Scott National has pages for the cut squares. I received maybe close to 200 of these as part of another purchase a while ago. I'll eventually mount them, just to fill the pages and free up glassines. I agree that they are not as collectable, as cut squares, as in the past. |

Kira, the 2-cent red in your photo is a "cut square". Typically about 2 inches x 2 inches. |

It's called "postal stationery".
I like them as they have a certain appeal having been used mainly by businesses so maybe it's the "workhouse" aspect that appeals to me. As much as I like commemoratives, I find the daily business use of cut squares or "entires" is just as appealing. It's about somebody getting something important done rather than a nice cheery birthday card to Uncle Bob or paying a bill to the gas company.
"Entires" may be popular now, but that will mean an enormous amount of paper taking up a lot of space. Much like First Day covers where "just" 100 of them take up an entire album, "entires" would probably do the same thing. You'd need at least a few shelves to hold all of them. By contrast, 100 stamps could be mounted on two or three pages in an album. So I predict cut squares will not go away and collecting the larger versions will prove as unmanageable as First Day Covers and we know what happened to them.
Nevertheless, these are not widely collected today as they once were. Like FDC's, the thrill seems to be largely gone for some reason. Maybe they're just not sexy enough compared to stamps? But I find their quiet dignity very appealing.
Scott/Amos still sells the pages for cut squares under "postal stationery" which is what all of this is called. |

I collect everything stamp related including cut squares, postal stationary (entires), first day covers, etc. I know everyone says to specialize but I love all aspects of philately and so my brain (and heart for that matter) just refuses to specialize. Yes I agree large formats of anything is hard to manage (especially with limited space) but so far I am content with collecting it all. :) |

Hi Kira, thanks for offering these to me but I believe you cannot send email messages to or make sales/trades/mailings to anyone on here until you have 50+ posts. |

ah ok.. perhaps that's why I do not see any private message area on my side and why I don't have my avatar image too
in any case I will keep those postal stationery on the side for when they can be sent to you
