I never haggle with only one dealer, Eric Jackson, as he is well known not to discount anything from the price marked for anyone. He is not at Boston. His area is revenue material.

Haggling is expected even if done in a non-obvious way. You hand your stack of goodies to the dealer and ask how much and wait for the answer. Most dealers will total the group lower than at the individual prices. If pleased, then pay. If not ask or suggest an appropriate adjustment. One item, marked at $25, try the 'will you take $20' while holding out the $20 dollars, or $22 or what ever might work. Do not force the dealer to make change, because then it is as much work to give you $5 back on your $30 for the $25 item and so why drop the price?

It is okay to ask why is this priced this way (especially if it seems overpriced). Also it is fine to ask if the fact the cover was torn in half and tapped back together considered in the pricing. Mistakes happen.

Lastly I enjoy paying full price, no questions asked from dealers. If they know me, they know they blew the pricing, if they don't know me they still blew the pricing. But I want to see other things upon which they may have blown the price.

Yes, have a container appropriate for the type of purchases you plan. The keep said container in you hand or between you knees (ankles) at all times.

Most of all, have fun.

Another question is what do people use to carry around their purchases?

Mainer, I have a smaller backpack that I take to stamp club meetings and to shows. Big enough to have my Scott Classic Specialized, tools I'll need (magnifier, tongs, extra 102 cards, iPad, etc.). Several different options inside, for storing purchases.

Not that this is the best way, but it has always worked well for me.
Hope to get to see you there....Ray

As with any other dealer, it depends on how well they know you, how much you've historically spent with them, and whether they like you. There's a human element to all of this.

There have been times that Eric has been willing to discount, but then again I started out as a naive bottom feeder (no offense to anyone intended), so I would always ask for discounts from him and Richard, etc. before I realized that they typically don't discount... so now they expect it from me.

Not all dealers operate the same way when it comes to pricing, offers, and negotiation.

The same goes for offering time payment terms, holding items for you, or setting items aside for you in advance. If you build a rapport, it can pay dividends over time.

I only haggle if something is way over priced/miss priced. Mostly, I want the dealers to get paid because they paid thousands for the floor space.
