I'm not too hot on the Deegam system... the ones I refer to would have M12L MAIL. Stamps with M12L MPIL come from prestige booklets so if you could check which you have?

The image I posted earlier is an example from a counter sheet with the codes MAIL and M12L; it is not from a Prestige Booklet. I can't photograph the iridescent overprint, so you'll have to trust me. The stamp shown below is from a Prestige Booklet with codes MPIL and M11L.

I am not aware of any 68p Machins from Prestige Booklets with codes MPIL and M12L.

Thanks for the postings. I was forgetting that the 2012 Dahl prestige booklet 68p was dated 11 and not 12

Incredibly, I just received a 17 oz. packet of on paper "far east" hoardings from an online Listia auction that was actually comprised of over 50% Machins - some pre-decimal even. I think the (non-collector) must have lumped them in with the Hong Kong issues - btw, there were a few classic QE2 HK and KGVI Malay Protectorate in there too... good pickings. If they were trying to sneak these in to get rid of them, they came into the right hands! :)

Normal Machin Elliptical perforation.

For some reason the printer has done the perforation of stamps from the Merchant Navy Booklet "upsidedown"... i.e. elliptical perfs at the top on both the 50p and the 5p stamps.

Interesting to know if ALL the booklets are done like that.

Any Machin lovers have tips on soaking Machins with security cutouts ,should I leave them on paper?

I tried a few and failed.

My recommendation is to leave them on paper. Too much effort involved, along with a high percentage of ruined stamps. I square off the edges with a mount cutter to make them look nicer.

Nice arrangement.

I read on the Norvic Philatelics site that a 2nd Class coil from a roll of 10,000 coded M12L MRIL (printed by Walsall) made an appearance earlier this year.

Without a very detailed knowledge of the printing dates or issue dates, it is sometimes difficult to place these coded stamps. I have just gone with, for instance, MA12 or M12L stamps going in the "2012" spaces. I believe that the Red 1st class with codes M12L, while printed in 2012, were not issued until early 2013 and probably this year too which would mean that M13L Red 1st class stamps were actually printed and issued in 2013 as well which ...well... might mean me changing (yet again) how I display these self adhesive with security features... so I put these also in a "2012" or "2013" slot according to the codes.
It would follow that the 2nd class M12L MRIL might have been printed in 2012 by Walsall and not issued until 2014. The MA12 MRIL were done by Enchede, I believe.
The stamps I collect and display come from normal post and are just the basic ones and not a complete list.

In todays post was a 2nd class Machin with the security overlay misplaced. Not nearly enough to be called an error but good enough to keep as an example. The misplacement measures 1.5mm and has the IL part of MTIL on the border instead of the design.

My wife's passport came today in an envelope with a Special Delivery up to 500g self-adhesive with security slits and overlay with MA10 code. It is S.G.# U2986. I don't know the face value but it must have been over £5 for this service.

Postmarked in Edinburgh.

Hi scotzm
Makes all the hassle of passport renewal worthwhile, to get a nicely cancelled modern special delivery Machin like that!

Nice to get a high value Machin now and again, DavidR. Looking around it appears the Special Delivery stamp has a "face value" starting at £7.15 for the service.
I no longer collect GB Machins) after 1990... except what is given to me, comes in the post, and the very, very occasional purchase from Royal Mail and charity shop kiloware. Having said that I now have dozens of pages of Machins collected that way despite my very best efforts NOT to spend time, effort and money on them

. . and now, for something completely different . .

1968 1/2D orange brown (Adminware site reference),
marginal block of 9, with a hole punched inside
a printed square in the right hand margin selvedge.

Hole with a 'Z' and an 'O' I think, or OZ or ZO ?
