I suppose it's reassuring for Brenda: "Remarkable - we look just as we did in 1968. We haven't aged at all". As fir that posthorn, it too looks as good as new.

This thread is under " World Classic Stamps Mint and Used".

I do need some assistance on this issue?

Is this an example of a screened value?

Don't see any halftone dots in the numbers, so I would say no. It is definitely a photogravure-printed stamp, with all of those sawtooth edges.

Got this pristine block of 50 a few years ago for a couple of dollars. So, I figure these post office training stamps must be considered as uncollectible or very undesirable in the U.K.

Is this correct? Thanks in advance.

Not understood, is just the value screened the query? or the background?
I recall screening, but dashed if I could find much on the value screen

Examples of Wales Background screening

I knew I wasn't crazy/dingy...yet.

Rod, if you go to "the Machin Nut" site, you will see that the 1/6- stamp has a screened value variety listed. This is what angore is asking about.

What about the postal training Machins?

My Adminware pages makes reference to a 4p std perfs turquoise with a narrow value. SG does not list any 4p listings as T367a or Type I / II (both involve narrow values).

33-1-1 X996 4p 4p. Litho (P14) greenish blue Turquoise
33-2-1 V X862 4p 4p. photo greenish blue Turquoise
33-1-2 V X997 4p 4p. Litho (P14) greenish blue Turquoise
33-4-1 V X1002 4p 4p. Litho Questa (P15x14) Type II? greenish blue Turquoise
33-2-2 V X932 4p 4p. photo greenish blue Turquoise
X932Ea 4p 4p. photo pale greenish blue
33-3-1 V X863 4p 4p. photo greenish blue Turquoise
33-3-2 X864 4p 4p. photo greenish blue Turquoise
33-3-3 X864Ea 4p 4p. photo greenish blue Turquoise
V? X933 4p 4p. photo new blue Cobalt Blue
? X933 4p 4p. photo new blue Cobalt Blue

Update: I think I figured it out. The phosphor types, perfs, and print method will isolate these. Since they appear to be unique, I am not sure why Adminware groups them separately.

I just noticed that this interesting thread exists. Some time ago I asked some questions about Machin stamps in another thread, but some could not be answered, so I ask them here in this Machin thread.

1)
There is a stamp in the Connoisseur catalogue in chapter 2, number P70:
7P deep reddish brown, CB, thin numeral, head B1, cyl. 8, experimental coating PCP

It has a high value, so I wonder which of is characteristics is responsible for it?
Does anbody know this stamp?

Also, I wondered about:

2)
Has anybody an example of an uncoated stamp (or a link) where you can see how obvious this uncoated paper is? Sometimes uncoated paper is also smooth, so how do you distinguish coated and uncoated paper in the Machins?

3)
there are many varieties about gum - is this only relevant for unused stamps with gum, or can you also find out anything about the (lost) gum in used stamps?

Thank you.

I cannot answer your questions since I am still learning but I do want to find a good dealer that can provide examples of paper/tagging types for reference.

Thank you, let us know if you have an example. I guess the gum is only relevant for unused stamps, but the coated vs. uncoated is important to know.

The 7P remains a mystery :).

The description "experimental coating" is not usually part of descriptions I usually see.
