There were some hand painted FDC's sold in the recent Maresch Auction (April 2017) for $100's but I think these are special somehow.

For what it's worth, I've just gotten back into stamp collecting today after a 30 year break, and unlike back then I will be collecting FDCs, I'm very interested in them in fact.

Since this official FDC with the withdrawn souvenir sheet is quite valuable, collectors should be aware of unofficial FDCs that were being made to get more from collectors.

For most stamp collectors, collecting FDCs is fun, colourful and inexpensive. It is a very good educational way to introduce stamp collecting to beginners, especially children.

For some commemorative stamps, finding different postal usages on covers can be hard. However, one can sometimes find different first day usages that can make it easier, especially if they do not have the official first day cancel.
