Well I know where my next Vario pages are coming from--Matildas. There prices are lower than any I have seen.

Well, their price of $3.65 for 5 sheets equates to £2.33 sterling. I get mine for £2.25 over the counter in the UK, which is pretty well the standard price over here. But of course shipping costs would make them much more expensive.

Absolutely not. Amos and Subway always turn their orders around within a day.

They are incredibly inept or had some sort o problem with their system.

I usually attend at least one large stamp show a year where Subway sets up their large "square of tables" so I buy from them and feel I am beating the shipping charges..there used to be a stamp supplies dealer that set up at the White Plains show..i asked around as to why he no longer came and was told it was too much trouble packing his stuff in..especially when the show was in the basement due to a larger type exhibition or show being held on the main floor !!

Hi Philb,

When you say White Plains ahow are you talking about the County Center shows?

When I lived in the Bronx I used to go the Westchester shows and the Roosevelt Field shows all the time. Here in Atlanta the shows are fairly small with a lot of Florida dealers. Since I collect only 3 countries I gave up going since a dealer from Tennessee passed away. He was the only one who had a lot of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela material. New England Stamp is good but they don't come very often.

I will say one thing. The dealers here are 'normal'. I remember a few wierdos, but nice wierdos, in NY.

Jerry, yup..thats the place in White Plains...the shows are now 90 percent coin dealers and perhaps 7 or 8 stamp dealers..i am halfway between the shows in Albany and White Plains...i know what you mean about the weird dealers...when I attended a small show in Vermont the dealers treated you like family...the New York dealers are loud..."He still owes me a few thousand dollars" etc etc yelling accross the aisles...i have some Columbia duplicates let me know if I can help..phil

I'll post an update after the supplies arrive.

KirkS

KirkS, my order from Green Dragon arrived by UPS Ground this morning, just about 48 hours after placing the order. I'll definitely use them or one of their sister companies (Matilda's and TradeWinds) for future purchases. Steve

I didn't expect that the items would arrive that soon but, in the interest of full disclosure, shipping and handling for my order came to $9.23. I didn't mind, however, because the savings on the products I bought more than offset that cost. For example, I paid $19.95 for a Showgard Excal Guillotine -- Subway is charging $31.25 for that item and Potomac lists it at $25.

Follow-up:

My Potomac order arrived today, Saturday, 18 December.

The order (Vario Stock Sheets) was packed securely with two sheets of bubble-wrap and sent in a UPSP Priority Mail box.

The total amount of the order was about $50 and I was charged $8.25 for shipping and handling. The total amount of postage on the box was $8.20 -- all in blocks of 20c stamps. My credit card was not charged until December 14, the day I received the email saying my order had been processed.

Overall, I would give Potomac a grade of A+ on item price, shipping charges, and delivery.

I do feel like the time between 19 November and 14 December was excessive, but I'm willing to attribute it a one-time glitch or the after-Thanksgiving and Christmas rush, etc.

Hi Kirk:
As you can see this is my very first posting on these forums. First let me introduce myself to you and the other readers that replied to your post. My name is David Most and I am the son of the actual owner of Potomac Supplies.
I'm really sorry and surprised to hear that your order took so long before you received the shipment. As a result I talked to Dan about this matter to find out what the delay was all about, because we normally carry a huge stock of varios in our inventory. As it turns out you had ordered the more heavier and expensive vario+ pages made by lighthouse. The vario+ stock sheets are an item which in contrast to the normal vario sheets sell very infrequently, and thus we carry a much smaller inventory. That coupled with the holidays and receiving your order after just acquiring a shipment from Lighthouse slowed things down. But even with those reasons, I'm not a happy camper about the length of time it took for you to receive your order.
If at anytime you have a question concerning your order you may email, or call our toll free number 1-800-426-5723. You can ask for me personally, and I'll research the situation and call you back with the information.

Will its good to hear from you, I hope all is going well for you. We still sell the box lots in the shop, in fact I can't keep up with the demand. If your back in our neck of the woods, please some in and say HI. Oh we have a new store website with our mug shots and directions to the shop. marylandstamps.com

Happy and Safe Holidays to everyone here on the Boards.

David:

I'm flattered and appreciative that you took a personal interest in my order.

I did indeed order the Vario PLUS pages, not the standard ones -- a fact I did not mention in my postings here. And it does make sense that would be a factor in the processing.

As I mentioned in my most recent comment, after reflecting on the entire transaction, I am very pleased with my order. I'm not a "high-volume" consumer, but if I needed more supplies today, I wouldn't hesitate to order from Potomac/Maryland.

Thanks,
Kirk
