A few hours early yet ... but for March 23rd I submit this example: Notice that the bar cancel is a full 4" (four inches!) long. Although there may be other examples, I imagine this must be the maximum length that was used on a US cover, as I don't recall seeing many others with cancellation bars quite that long. |

A little hard to read--I think this was for yesterday. Note the address -- (This is the smoker railroad postcard previously posted.) |

wt, that is a great FDC. I really like the airmail border
butterfly, interesting Jail Mail you've got there. |

Just found another classic FDC for March 23rd. This time from 1934's Maryland Tercentenary. (I think it's a Rice cachet.) |

wt1, Nice cover, I always like seeing a plate block on cover. It seems to balance it with the cachet well. |

Thanks for the comments about plate blocks on cover. They do look nice, but surprisingly a lot of cover collectors look down on them as they are not in the traditional format that easily fits on a cover (especially the commemorative sized ones). Even though the catalog may say otherwise, many collectors suggest that plate blocks have little premium over a traditional cover with a single stamp.
I remember some years ago I sold off some covers to a commercial dealer, who took the singles but refused any blocks or plate blocks as they were not "resaleable" (at least not in their opinion.) Just goes to show that there are differing opinions out there.
Personally, I feel that plate blocks on cover are going to become an interesting sideline only because they are no longer possible to collect. Since the introduction of self stick stamps that have die cut perforations between them, it is virtually impossible to affix a plate block to a cover anymore. |

Butterfly, great card. The cancel is a lovely Alaska Yukon Pacicic Expo Bomar S09-06 from an Internatinal machine. Great stike. |
