WoOt-wOoT! 4000+ views! How cool is that!

Thanks SCF for being here and all of you who keep popping in to check out what is going down with Downey Head stamps. I'd also like to 'shout out' the people on the list below, they are the folks who have posted something here and their contributions are truly appreciated!

So Zee thinks the overprint on the Downey Head above is fake,

can't say I blame him....

Some of the characteristics would lead one to believe that is the case. Anyone else have anything to say on the matter?

Have a good one,

Skilo54

Skilo54, I need your sage advice on distinguishing between ˝d die 1A and 1B. You show that on the die 1A the right dolphin's upper scale forms a triangle whereas the 1B only has a stub of a line. I have checked about 30 stamps and see the upper scale completing a triangle on a few while many have the line curving down about half way before it stops.

Am I correct to assume that die 1A stamps have the top of the upper scale curving downward whereas the die 1B only has a little or no stub sticking upwards?
Regards
Mike

Hi there mhc99, sounds like you have a nice selection of ˝d. Downey Heads! You are correct, On the Die 1b stamps the line representing the scale never returns back down to the left point and is represented by a short stick. Here is a quick drawing that shows what I think we both are talking about.

I hope that helps mhc99, and have a blast with your Downey Heads!

Have a good one,

Skilo54

skilo54, I need your help with this ˝d mint stamp. It is a die 2 with a multi crown GvR watermark. My question pertains to the perfs on the left side of the stamp. Is that normal or have the perfs been cut off?
Regards
Mike

Hi there mhc99, thanks for the message about this post, I seemed to have missed it, so I appreciate the friendly poke in the ribs!

Before we go any further I have to ask.....

Is there gum on the back or has the stamp been washed?

Talk to you soon,

Skilo54

Skilo54, thanks for attending to this matter for me. With regard to your question about the back of the stamp, it is mint lightly hinged with full gum.
Regards
Mike

Hi there mhc99, very kind of you to share the back, nice touch Amigo!

The thing that has me with this one is the fact that there seems to be a missing perf hole on the bottom left corner (cut edge). This is a bit odd and I will have to take some extra time to think and do some research through my references. Could be a day or two, so please hang ten for a bit and I promise to get back to ya, unless someone else chimes in? (<---hint, hint :))

I am also very tired these day when I get in, and have a hard time concentrating on anything other than the backside of my eyelids. 16+ hour days, 7 days a week (except last Sunday) for over a month straight...... egads!

Hope you all are well and your collections are looking as good as ever!

Have a good one,

Skilo54

Skilo54, I really appreciate your efforts so take your time. Did you notice that the perfs on the opposite are straight cut down the center of the holes?
Regards
Mike

Hi

This stamp with both vertical perfs straight cut, perhaps is from delivery coil.

Many thanks to all who have contributed on this thread - I only wish I had seen it yars ago when I first tried to ID my Downey heads - had I known to look at the lion first, I could have saved myself much confusion! Great thread!

Hi folks,

Yes I did notice the straight cut perfs on the right side, you can also see straight cut perfs at the bottom, the top ones look pulled. If the perf hole was where it should be on the lower left corner I would be saying a booklet stamp with a bad haircut from the bottom right corner, but it is not, so I am really leaning towards this being a vertical delivery coil stamp.

I believe I may have shown these before, some 1d. coils from my collection.

Have a good one,

Skilo54

My pleasure MHC99, I am glad to try and help when I can. Thanks for the positive vibes!

Well, another humungo milestone here on The Downey Head thread folks! A little under 2 months ago I did a backflip because of the 4000 view mark, well guess what? Double backflip with 2˝ twists in the pike position from this guy!

We just hit 5000+ views!

That is incredible, thanks again to all of you who continue to have a bit of an interest into what is going on with these wonderful stamps! I truly appreciate it and always look forward to seeing what others are up to!

Let's start the trip to the 10,000mark with a bit of a bang! I have begun to scan my 1d. Downey Head collection for a few reasons and would like to share some of the scans with you all.

Here are the first 20 pages of my 1d. Downey Head collection, and thanks again for having a look! I alway look forward to any and all questions, comments, observations, opinions or hello's.

Have a good one,

Skilo54
