I noticed that, too, and reached the same conclusion. If they hadn't corrected it I think the label would have qualified as an illegal usage.

This is before the era of tagging. The seal tricked the clerk and the card was manually misfaced and fed through the single-head Universal Model-D canceling machine. During a subsequent manual sorting, the misfacing was discovered and the card was re-fed correctly.

Add: The card had 1 cent on it, thus no matter how the USPOD handled it, it was fully paid and the seal would never become an illegal use.

Here is an April 23, 1955 Italian State Railway round trip ticket with a price of 2320 lire. Ticket is from Genoa to Milan and back. Attached to the ticket is a 25 lire right of endorsement label.

I have seen several others of these issues before.

In 1933 the Paris Esperanto Federation held a congress in Montmartre and OVERPRINTED these (and other) issues with 'Kongreso de Esperanto Parizo Federacio 21 Majo 1933 Montmartre'.

these are all listed as Item 173 I-IV.

As to your stamps, the top pair of cows is 173 IV, the bottom 4 would be 173 III. The center 2 cows are not listed.

Your stamps would be FRENCH NOT ESPERANTO as they lack the overprints.
There are a couple of French Cinderella catalogs that MIGHT list them.

I collect Esperanto Cinderellas and postage stamps and hope the information is useful.

Here is an advertising label for the Seventh National Orange Show held in San Bernardino, California from February 20 to 28, 1917. Label is inscribed, "reduced rates on all railroads."

This 1982 label indicates that annual dues of 12 marks were paid to the Wiesbaden, Germany Sports Club. It is affixed to the first block on the inside of a folded membership card. Other blocks contain rubber-stamp prints showing that this person visited four other participating clubs in the Bundesrepublik.
