A fold out map style album would be pretty cool. That will give you a better idea of what my collection looks like. Here is a link to my display thread. I think the most of the frames are on page 3. https://goscf.com/t/5835#5835
smauggie, Do you mean like monopoly (a space for every place) or maybe you mean attaching multiple boards together to house the collection to fold out? Another idea I have to is to put it together like a philatelic passport with a page for every town/region.
A game where you have to collect all the postmarks and visit all the historic spots? Maybe Eat at Joes would be like jail?
That's a great collection. You could have a lot of fun with the frame with the map. More complicated doing an album with the rest. Did you actually travel the route to get all those covers canceled?
Si, Thanks! No, I've only traveled Illinois to the Oklahoma border on 66. The map is for Illinois only and it has been hand carried to each PO and I've collected over 30 postmarks with around 30 more to go to have it completed, I started it over 3 years ago. As for the covers, most of them were for events before I started my topical collection. I have searched constantly for them and try to maintain a list of all the Route 66 themed pictorial postmarks I've identified.
Either that, stamperdude or simply overlay the game board with a design of your own choosing. Then you could have an easily storable display that could be mounted horizontally or vertically.
Years ago I had a small collection that followed the timeline of Who declared war on Who during WWI. The stamps used were mainly definitives depicting the various heads of state who were involved, if available. 'Germania' stamps were used to depict Germany as there were never any protrait stamps of 'Kaiser Bill' printed. It was a very fun collection to put together. The timeline started with the Austrian 3 stamp set dealing with the assassination of Archduke Ferninand and his wife Sophia. This collection can rightly be categorized as a 'story' topical collection.
