Mothers would (rightfully) never agree with this one. Here is a bag of HARIBO Color-rado candy shown on a personalized (Marke Individuell) stamp from Germany. Stamp is probably from the Haribo Candy Co, but could be from a large vendor. In 1920, Hans Riegel founded Haribo Co. in Bonn. The company name is an acronym for HAns RIegel in BOnn. From germandelistore.com website, "Licorice, gummi candies, and sweet, sugar-coated foam candies all in one bag...Haribo color-rad is ranked #2 in the top 20 most popular Haribo products in Germany today." |

Yum, sugar-coated foam candies! I assume a bit was lost in translation, and this means something like marshmallow or circus peanut candy. |

Yes codehappy, the text was auto-translated. In one part of the description, "marshmallow" was used, but in the text I used, the program used the meaningless term "foam". My bad. |

No apologies necessary, I thought it was amusing. In civilian (non-stamp collecting) life, I work a lot with machine learning systems. It simultaneously amazes me how far machine translations have come, and also how far we have to go before they're even half as good as human translators.
German and English are very closely-related languages with a lot of shared grammar and vocabulary; machine translations between them still sound awkward more often than not. Try it between languages with little or no relation (say between English and Japanese, either direction) and you'll get a bunch of nonsense, usually. |
