Ukrainian Borshch and vegetables were issued in 2005 under the program Europa, Gastronomy
Who really owns borsch? is a very controversial theme and there will never be a clear answer to that. But the fact is that the key ingredient of borshch is beetroot and Ukraine has always been a major producer of beetroot. So most probably the origin of borshch is Ukrainian. The Russian alternative to borshch is shchi with cabbage as a key ingredient.

I love Borshch with beetroot, and it is great to know its origin! Here in the UK, Chicken Kiev is known better, I think. A friend of mine took me an Ukraine restaurant in Tokyo while ago, we ate those both and also Varenyky, which is similar to Chinese dumpling (also Japanese Gyoza) in this stamp below. Amazing to see how wide the cuisine culture could be spread and localised.
