This stamp was issued in 1983 as part of a definitive series depicting Signs of the Zodiac & Landscapes. This shows the Wetterhorn-Massif and the sign Cancer (crab). A bit of artistic license perhaps? |

The back legs of the velvet swimming crab (now more commonly classified in the Genus Necora) are paddle-like to aid in swimming; they are seen as somewhat striped. The crab's eyes are red! The animals reach sizes of only about 8 to 10 cm and are fairly common in waters surrounding the British isles.  |
