The Left Hand of Darkness

Ursula Kroeber Le Guin (1929–2018) was an American author renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to speculative fiction, particularly her science fiction works set within the Hainish universe.
Her 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness quickly gained acclaim and became one of her most celebrated works.
The stamp's background portrays a pivotal scene from the novel, where Genly Ai—an Earth-born envoy —escapes a prison camp on the icy planet Gethen. He flees alongside a disgraced Gethenian politician.
Genly Ai was sent to Gethen as a representative of the Ekumen, a loose interplanetary confederation aiming to foster diplomatic unity.
