Never Seen Before 3cent Canadian Small Queen ??

Looks like it was a black and white scan, or at least edited to achieve the nice grey colour of the first scan.

It looks very oxidized (sulpherized?) to me.

A cool thing to do would be to only bath half the stamp. Like a shaved / unshaved shaving-ad picture vertically down the center of the stamp. Poor Vickie.

I agree with Ash. There are plenty more 37s in the sea. Keep it for comparison.

Orange can degenerate to black with pigment ink.

Too bad really. I have heard that there is a chemical that can be applied to the stamp to bring back most of it's colour. Can any other member in here verify that??

I have an exact same stamp that Rod has scanned from Germany and it too is as black as the one he shows.

Try Hydrogen peroxide

if you use hydrogen peroxide get pharmaceutical grade not the stuff for bleaching hair.

Reversing "Oxidation" on Stamps
A gentle bath in a two to three percent hydrogen peroxide solution will restore the colour in stamps that have
lead based inks that have darkened due to exposure to trace amounts of acid. If the colour does not change
after a half an hour or so, "oxidation" is not the culprit. This treatment works for restoring colour to the 3c
small Queens of Canada. By a different chemical mechanism it will also restore the colour of the "muddy
waters" variety of the Canadian 1898 Map Stamp. Research the stamp pigment before using hydrogen
peroxide, as vegetable based dyes used in later years may be irreversibly bleached by this treatment.

An example of cleaning using a 3% solution of Hydrogen Peroxide. This one turned out very nice but other times there is still some of the blackness remaining. I only did this because it is a nice stamp otherwise I don't think it would be worthwhile.
