Back to thread topic, a few more I'm having difficulty identifying: (1) MELBOURNE CT? (AIR) - never seen either a Melbourne CT or an AIR cancel one before. (2) WADGH? (3) --RROMINE BTW I'll soon be listing a very large collection of NSW datestamps on ebay. If by any chance you're after a particular one, do send me a message. I may have the one you're after. |

(1) is probably Melbourne C.1. (i.e. Central One). This sort of designation was used before we moved to 4 digit post codes. I lived in Brighton S.5.
(2) could be Wauchope NSW
(3) is probably Narromine NSW |

Thanks, 22crows! I desperately need help with this one: it seems to say '(L?)ETHA(M?),' but there is apparently no place in NSW with a name like this. Any suggestions? |

ARDLETHAN NSW
If you found its previous name, probably you would have a valuable pmk.
Warri Post Office opened on 1 October 1907 and was renamed Ardlethan in 1908. |

Search tip for future.......
Download the Australian Postcode *.pdf
Use the search function to search part names
eg : I typed in "ETHAN" then repeadedly hit F3 until a suitable name surfaced.
Hope that helps

I was wondering how you did it!
I very nearly tried that strategy, but for some reason I assumed that it was the name of a place whose post office had closed. |

Well, now you'll get them all :) if not, you'll know they <are> closed (or renamed) PO's. Good Luck.

Ardlethan was an old tin mining town. There used to be an Ardlethan Tin listed on the stock exchange, but long gone to the corporate graveyard, I think. |

The Australia Post pdf is excellent - I only wish SAPO - the South African Post Office - presented its post office list in a similar fashion. However, it only has a scroll down menu, which is helpful to a certain extent but doesn't allow searching. For those interested in SA postmarks, you can find the SAPO menu here: http://www.sapo.co.za/CustomerSupport.aspx?ID=4 |

MURWILLIMBAH with an extra letter or two at the start? 4. P O. something 78???? 5. TI (odd space) broken E? |

Thanks for the assistance, rod222!
However, I have no idea what your references to HAMILTON DELIVERY and WENDOUREE DC mean!
Also, the PPA Post Office List says South Murwillumbah closed in 1902, so #3 would have to be something else. |
